For the last 4 years I have been driving roll-offs and dump trucks and I have been putting on a few lbs. I drove for 6 months otr and 1 year for a foodservice company. Ive decided to go back into the foodservice trade for the exercise I used to get unloading the trailers. But I havnt drove anything with a trailer for 4 years. There is no problem shifting, braking or anything like that. Im afraid of going to an interview then having to do a road test so rusty. Is a refresher course worth it ? Would I be better off just renting a truck and trailer and drive it around by myself for a while ? thanks for any advice
Need advice from some old timers

Ever heard of the bicycle thing?
It will all come back to YOU!

be honest with the job interview. they will indeed road test you, but so what...?? do your best. as long as you can demonstrate some skills, they will work with you.
good luck, let us know how you do.......... -
I have heard and been asked if I had been driving over the road or any driving in the last 6 months,if not they wanted a refresher course,of course i haven't stopped that long in between jobs.

Jaws you can do it!!! Just be upfront, do your best, and don't be surprised if you get in the rig and everything comes back to you.
The only draw back I see personally, is that it may be an insurance issue. -
Hey driver here's my experience. I drove OTR for 10 years, then 10 years local in a concrete mixer. I got tired of mixers and got back into a semi hauling dirt, rocks and asphalt. On my road test I had to do a 45 and 90 blindside back. Did them both with no pullups. I had the same concern, not driving a semi for 10 years. But it is like a bicycle, it all comes back. You might be rusty but you can still do it!
