Is the following story something that happens often in the trucker world?
I'm a recent graduate, and have been given a list of companies that hire green drivers.
The last few weeks i have been working with a recruiter from an established company. Early morning the other day i was told that i still have the position lined up. Everything was as it had been. The day after i faxed my DoT long form, i get a random call in the afternoon basically saying "this is the recruiters boss, this doesn't reflect upon your application, but we dont have any work on the west coast. If you lived in NC i could get you a truck no problem."
Is this something i can look forward to for the rest of my career?
Do you think it was something they saw on my physical that they didnt like?
I'm not mad, just confused as hell. I need to know if there is something i can do to avoid this happening again.
Thanks gang,

That's a weird scenario, but seeing a bait and switch doesn't surprise me. There are a LOT of companies in Washington that hire new guys, though - check out May, Gordon, and others.

TWT, System Transport in Spokane (One company two divisions-reefer and flats...Not bad for a starter company at all. And with TWT, living in Everett, you are right on their freight lane...

Things change daily in this biz. On Monday, a company needs to hire 8 drivers in the Seattle area. On Tuesday, said company loses a contract in Seattle and suddenly doesn't need those 8 drivers.

Perhaps they did you a favor !!!!!

Stay away from Werner, if you value your career.
Good luck, driver. :smt023outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
Really good companies meantioned above. Also Swift has a Sumner terminal running mostly Costco loads. I'd aim for GTI, TWT etc first, but Swift could be a good position to get your experience too.

There's been a few of us that say never believe a recruiter or school. Save yourself some headaches and go out and find the job yourself. You can do some research right here on how to find work, you just have to weed through all the junk. Your best bet IMHO is download a list of companies that you want to work for and go see them face to face. That lets them know who you are and you really want to work.

One of the issues that companies have is when their drivers want hometime. I live in Maine and Werner did not have many runs going to Maine. Therefore hometime for me was more difficult than for a driver who lived in North carolina.
This may not be quite he same issue that yu have. -
