Hi all!
I have been a wrecker driver for the past 11 years and feel its time for me to take the next step.
I cant say thank you enough for providing a place for new and experienced drivers to share information about the industry. I look forward to making many new friends in the years to come.
Be safe and take care
Frank

some days the party is better than others, but either way, it's a wild ride.............

welcome..................
would love to hear some good "wrecker/towing" stories. Like how deep the truck was stuck in the mud, etc. Lol -
Thanks for the welcome
I have seen a lot, some good and some so bad I dont care to remember, never a dull moment in the industry.
A big truck story that comes to mind is when a driver parked his 18 wheeler in an empty paved lot to ride out a hurricane. When he woke up the next day and stepped out of his truck he realized the truck had sunk into the ground up to the axles. Florida is all sand so even though you are on the pavement it doesnt mean you are safe from high water wash outs.
Last year we had a pilot land a single engine plane on a 4 lane road due to engine failure, we had to take the wings off it to load it on a truck. If I ever give up trucking I might have to consider becoming a aircraft mechanic lol.
I once pulled a SUV and a pick up truck out of a 20 ft sink hole. I would be telling a lie if I said I wasnt scared to be 20ft down in the earth hooking up vehilces. So many things can go wrong in a situation like that.
This last one always amazes me and happens more then you would think. People trailer boats / wave runners to a local boat ramp, once they back the trailer into the water and climb out of the vehicle to un hook they forget to put the vehicle in park or set the parking brake and within seconds the vehicle and trailer are completly submerged in saltwater.
Those are just a few that come to mind, hope you enjoyed them.

Welcome aboard, Big Frank. My son just got a job running tow truck, after reading your posts, I'm not so sure about it.
Just kidding, I'm sure he will be fine.
Keep us posted on your adventures in the Trucking world. -
As long as he keeps his head on a swivel and has a decent trainer he will do well. It can be a very rewarding job, I always feel good after helping someone.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

Yup, he starts training today. Should have seen his face when he walked in yesterday and said "I'm a brand new tow truck driver!"
He's 22 and in college two nights a week. He doesn't drink or party, so its right up his alley. That was the first thing the guy asked him about.
He's got his head on straight, and is a sponge when it comes to learning anything new about cars, etc. I'm excited for him. The whole factory scene just doesn't fit his personality.

Good times! having parents that are involved with the trucking industry will be a huge advantage.
Sounds a lot like me when I was his age, I couldnt stand being locked up in a building for 10-12 hours a day looking at the same four walls.
If you or your son ever have any questions or worries shoot me a PM anytime. I will try to answer any questions you may have, the tow industry faces a lot of the same problems I read here. Companies will try to over work drivers or ask them to run over weight at times.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
