I am at the point where I am starting to fill out online applications and talk to recruiters. I have a Class A but no T/T experience or driving school so I will be stuck with a training company.

What questions should I ask the recruiters?

how long is the training usually for this company

how often will there be home time

what are the health and retirement plans

    what are the vacation times

    are there any paid holidays

    is there a rider program

do i have to turn in my truck each time it goes in for service, or do i get to keep it

what is the age of equipment on the road.

is this a drop & hook company, or a driver assist or driver load/unload company,

    do you pay for lumpers

how often do you require i turn in my paper work

how many miles might i expect to run weekly

how much per mile to earn

always ask how much money LAST....asking up front, from a newbie makes it look like you have NO DESIRE to know anything else, or are in it for the money only........and if you don't hear what YOU WANT TO HEAR, they know you will walk away....get to know ALL other facts first, money last...
some companies may start you off with low pay, but the benefits are good and the work is EASY (drop and hook only) and you walk out after you start off asking about pay......you might just miss a great job this way...

I think that's true also. I would seek all the knowledge about safety and benefits for the family. There's more to ask but you'll have to make your own list. Just sit down and make a list of what you think you should know and then refine it. Try to look at it from the other side and the person that is doing the hiring. What kind of imagine do you project when you ask how fast do the trucks run? Or would it be better to ask how often do you hold maintenance on the truck? Everyone is different but we all need the basics. I, myself, wouldn't talk to recruiters because I believe you can do the same thing they do. They work for others and not you. So the best idea is be prepared and ask all you can without damaging your image.
