OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fire crews have put of the blaze after a Chevy Cobalt collided with a tanker full of fuel just after 7 a.m. Friday morning near Northwest Expressway and Sara Road. The tanker was carrying 6,500 gallons of diesel and 1,500 gallons of gasoline.
Immediately following the collision both vehicles exploded into a fireball.
According to authorities, the driver of a sedan was driving northbound on Sara Road when she pulled out in front of the tanker truck.
The truck was traveling westbound on Northwest Expressway and tried to swerve to miss the car but clipped it, causing the explosion.
Neighbors in the area report hearing the explosion.
The plume of black smoke could be seen from every corner of the metro.
The inferno caught the car on fire also.
The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old girl, escaped unharmed.
The driver of the semi had some minor injuries but was transported to the hospital to be checked out.
Oklahoma City fire crews responded to the scene.
Initially, they weren't able to get too close to the wreckage because of the intense heat and flames.
About an hour after the explosion, crews were finally able to begin to apply a foam-water mixture to blaze fire to begin to extinguish the flames.
Crews had completely extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes.
Northwest Expressway and Sara Road will be closed in that area for most of the day as crews works to clean up the wreckage.
Authorities speculated there may be some damage to the roadway from the fireball.

Yeah that was a big mess...you could see and smell the smoke for miles. Very lucky that no one was seriously injured.

Hopefully this will wake up that 17 yr old to look before pulling out and to be a more cautious driver. Nothing wakes someone up faster than watching their life flash before their eyes. Thankfully no one was killed.
