Hello everyone,
I have a 1999 kw t600 with a 430hp c12 cat. My uncle rolled his Freightliner century in some bad weather last month in Amarillo and is parting out his truck. Long story short he has a 3406e with a 13 speed in that truck. The engine is gone but I bought the 13 speed off him. My question is will that 13 speed go in easily with my c12. I hate my super 10!! I am running 370 rears with 24.5 lo pros and I would love to have that 13 speed in my truck. I have a mechanic that will do the swap , but I am worried about the drive shaft being to long or to short and if the bell housing will work? Any one know anything about this! Thanks.

A 13 speed is longer than a 10 speed so you will have to shorten the driveshaft. The bell housing should work fine.

The bellhousing to the engine flywheel housing is the same. The only thing you'll have to worry about is the driveshaft length will be different. I'm not sure of the shifter tower location between the two transmissions and the shifter from the KW versus the Freightliner. It shouldn't be that hard of a conversion and would be well worth the effort to do.

Thanks guys. It is very well worth it. What worried me was the bell housing. One guy who has been working on big trucks most of his life told me the super 10 in my truck is a long trans and I might not have to change the length of the drive shaft. I heard to shorten the drive shaft is cheap, making it longer is where it gets expensive . I plan to swap it out next coming friday. New clutch going as well. The shifter should in the same locations. Well just have to pull it apart and see. Can't wait to split those high gears !!!! Lol

Remember I have a super 10. It looks a lot longer then a regular 10 speed. I don't mind shortening the drive shaft . I just hope I don't have to make it longer

I looked up the specs on the two transmissions. A 13 speed is 33.1 inches long. The super 10 is 32.41 inches long.

Thanks , it may just work without cutting. That will great as I am really trying stay with in a 1,000 dollar budget on the install with a new clutch.

Please update when you get it done. Have a regular 10 behind my C12 & a 13 would be much better if I ever stumble across a deal on one.

Not a problem. If all goes well This coming Friday my mechanic will be pulling it part and we'll see how it goes. I can't wait I am also doing a couple of things to up the power a bit. I have some ideas about redoing my air filter set up to help my little yellow breathe easier. I am swapping my single chimeney for dual 7inch stacks , then the following Monday I am getting the ECM tuned. I bought both power harnes's a couple of months back and will install as well. It's going to be fun.Last edited: Mar 26, 2011

I am sorry to inform you guys that I did not go thru with the swap . A very good friend of mine had his 13 speed granade and I sold him mine. Besides I hadn't looked up the numbers it was a rtlo 14613a. I have a rtlo16310B witch means I would of had less overdrive. Insted I did my front end suspension that needed work and installed the studio sleeper windows in my truck. Money well spent.
