CDL with no experience

You ain't gonna wanna hear this..... but go to school....

 

Many companies now require some sort of schooling. Your options will be very limited with no schooling. Very slim pickens...

 

Where at in CA? Construction is starting to pick up, might find something in that field. Also, watch for harvest of different produce. This is the land of fruits and nuts, that pertains to the crops grown, the guys growin'em, and the guys truckin'em! Plenty of opportunity to get into hauling tomatoes out here (mater-freighter) and other stuff. Might not be the most esteemed jobs in the trucking industry, but, since you don't have the school or the experience to get your foot in the door, you have to start somewhere.

 

Look at the smaller companys. Just let your fingers do the walking in the yellow pages. Get prepared to hear the word no. Find about 5 companies willing to let you apply and go do it. If you have more than one job offer select the one you like best. Just be prepared for a tough year. Since you have no experiance and no schooling you have a tough road to hoe, it can be hoed though

 

Put yourself on the other side and you do the hiring. You have a stack of applications and you start to sort them. You go by experience,clean record, and schooling. Can you see where your application might be?

 

If you Really Really Really want to get a good job driving a truck with no experince move to midland texas. You can get a job in the oilfield hauling brine tanks, frac equipment, cement and acidizing tanks. The pay is holding steady at 18/hr with a guaranteed 30 + hours a week overtime. Guys get paid weekly around here and the only requirements are that you have a cdl, you are breathing, and you can pass a piss test. People around here a BEGGING for CDL drivers. The only caveat is that you will run, run,run, run, and run some more. You will have no life other than inside the cab of a MACK truck....good luck

 

And if Texas doesn't suit you move up to North Dakota where all the same stuff applies. Hearbeat-- check. Cdl-- check. Drugtest-- check. Here's your keys, here's your $2000 a week check. That is Williston, ND everybody.

 

Many of the emplyers in ND, now want you to have an address there as well. It's what is keeping my boss's kid from getting a job there. He has no place of residence to call "home".

Anyhow, I can testify to this one personally. I had a job hauling diesel a week after getting my CDL! And I still needed to do the back ground check for the Hazmat endorsement! The company hired me anyhow and paid me to ride shotgun with drivers and misc non hazmat deliveries using a 1ton until I got my letters.

The only people with a CDL in Midland/Odessa not working, is people who don't want to work!!
