The advice I'll give ya is Stay put with who ever you choose for at least 1 year. It's a bad thing to move from company to company. You've got B.S. at any company you work for.
Keep reading site's like this and get more insite as too how thing's work in the Trucking industry. Trucker's like too talk B.S. just be patient and listen too your instructer's.
Good Luck and Welcome to the World of Trucking.

I agree. Whether a guy wants to start a career in trucking or its sister career pig poop scooping, it's his business and we should not be a bummer to that person.joeycool Thanks this.

Maybe if you were talking to a 7th grader. This is a full grown man who has decided he wants to drive big trucks!

Actually, it's very good advice. I went into the trucking industry, it was the worst choice i ever made. The trucking industry is a very bad idea. I drive a city bus, home every night paid from the time i leave the yard and get back to the yard. None of this cents per mile. Drive a bus, better pay, medical coverage.

Crete will hire you if you have a good work history, and a PTDI certification.

I worked for Con-way Truckload for a year and was discharged (my fault; but I won't go into it here). I was very happy working for them. They kept me running and I was on track to making over 40K for 2010. The equipment is well maintained and all the terminals were clean. The yards were all concrete (no mud or potholes). You have to be able to go in and out of Canada and have a HazMat endorsement (although I met drivers who didn't have either). I harbor no ill feelings toward them; as previously stated, it was my fault I was terminated.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
I just finished "boot camp" at Crowder College Friday. All incoming student graduates coming to Con-way Truckload are required to go thru and survive the "boot camp". You will be driving a 13-speed. You will be required to double clutch upshifting and downshifting. You will recieve some training but it is mostly a testing process to make sure you're polished enough to go out with a Con-way trainer. A 13-speed has the same H-pattern as a 9-speed and we pulled and MT 53' trailer so we were able to drive it as a 9-speed. Regretably, some folks do get sent home if their skills are not sharp enough.
