I don't have a TWIC card, but I'm happy to say that if you pay a $3.00 fee, you get a day pass. I had coils of steel both from Canada and Michigan to go to Mexico, and they had Me buy a pass, and didn't bother with a TWIC card when they found I didn't have one

Yeah, I agree with you 100%. But then it is the government, so we should be thankful that there are only 2 redundant fees to pay....could be worse...Uncle Sam could have 3 redundant fees to pay....aren't we lucky to only have to pay the fee twice for the same screening service!!!

Congress just keeps on creating new agencies and so government grows like weeds, and this is a good example. It does not add any value.

I had a letter from the IRS a few years ago, and they wanted me to pay taxes on $10,000 of income that I had already paid the taxes on....so I wrote them a letter telling them I thought paying the taxes once was enough, and I never heard back from them. :yes2557:

If more people resisted this type of intrusive behavior they would stop. It seems to me that they are rapidly conditioning our citizens that using these police state tactics is normal. It isn't!! Countries such as Israel and others have tight airport security and have not reverted to body scans and body searches. I would ask why the government has such fear of the people.

Well, I am against jets running into skyscrapers killing thousands. That seems like the terrorist main weapon.

I don't have any wife or kids.

Which would you hate worse? Your wife getting scanned or hoping they can find some of her body parts to identify? All they see is a silhouette anyways. Not like she's posing for playboy. She can always drive.

TWIC Just another way the government can create more employs for the government. This is not to say that security at the ports should be ignored, but why create more jobs and more office space for the taxpayer to pay for when the same service could be accomplished by the license office. It could be as easy as adding another endorsement to your existing license.

Spent the money & two round trips(400 miles) to get the card in fall '08. Finally delivered to a port in FL. Dec. 2010. As they were taking down my info via drivers license they asked if I had my TWIC. As I was opening my wallet to hand it over, they said "We don't need to see it, you're good." Took my picture for whatever reason & let me go unload.

Nice enough people at that particular port, but lighting $132 on fire would have accomplished the same as carrying my card.:biggrin_2556:

What are the additional cards(aside from TWIC) that ports require currently. Saw someone mentioning the Jacksonville FL port & have heard there is something additional the Baltimore port requires?

Last time I was at the Port in Baltimore which was back in October or November, they required the TWIC and was also told that they now require your company to register your truck with them. I was told I was being given a "first time exemption" but that if I came back I would not be allowed entry if the company hadn't registered my truck with them. Not sure what that was all about but that's what I was told.

they told you right, told me the same. I had to escort another one of our drivers that somehow the company didn't register his truck. Jacksonville requires a port id as well as the twic. You can get in with the twic but they have to right the info down, with the port id as well, you just go on thru

The port of Baltimore and some other ports are on a system called EMODAL.
Your company has to register you on line..
But if you ever switch trks. you have to be assigned to that trk.
Also if your wife or co driver goes in with you they need to be registered as well.
We had trouble last Dec. Tried to get my wife in on the system and they would not let her.
Yes she has a twic card. But seeing how they would not take her GREEN CARD.
So we had to get her a taxi to a hotel. No I could not turn my ld. around. Permits and it was a oversize ld.
This last time we got her setup to go in as she has a state ID card.. Go figure.

There are some ports along the west coast setup on this program as well.
Seems like somebody else learned how to make money off the latest scare tatics all in the name of security...
