I was with Bison and Big Freight and I talked to the drivers that are in this program. None of them like it. Now they own you for 2 years and there is nothing you can do about it. I don't recommend either company to anyone. But if you had to choose the lesser of 2 evils, then Bison would be it.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I would never agree to something like that myself, however, it's still an option for others to consider if they can't come up with the money for a CDL school.

O/O's are always looking to make a few bucks here and there. So write the test, then put an add out in the paper or ask someone you know that owns a truck if you can hire them for the air brake, practice, and road test. Then you would have your class 1 without going to Bison and such. You would be free to move around and not chained for the next 2 years.

I'd imagine though with the larger companies' paid training in return for x amount of years, they would want you to be 21 at least so they could run you in the US I'm guessing? It doesn't seem like a bad idea to me because of the guaranteed job though, but I'm not too sure there's a whole lot of opprotunities for an 18 year old fresh out of driver training.

Yes, it's the Special Risk Extension program sponsored by MPI. When the company that you choose to apply with hires you, you are commited to them for 2 years or pay MPI back the tuition fee's AND you also pay the company back for orientation and training. And after you sign the contract they do own you and they take full advantage of that fact.

I've recently switched to the reefer fleet which has alot less to do with the planners that control regular freight. My contract expires mid August, time will tell whether I stay or get out all together..
