I have a 2001 Kenworth T800 with a single exhaust with muffler that goes up behind the sleeper. I am wanting to put a weed burner with a muffler underneath. The bracket that holds this muffler behind the sleeper looks like it weighs a ton and plus it looks ugly. Is this an expensive to do and what do I need to change it out? I was told those KW mufflers are expensive to go underneath is their any aftermarket mufflers?
Changing to a Weed Burner Exhaust

Being a 2001, the muffler that you will need will not have any fancy emissions crap on it and therefore be pretty inexpensive. Go to KW and get a free flow Donaldson at around $80.
Then, since your current exhaust goes under the sleeper anyway, you will only need a bracket fabbed to hold the tailpipe.Big John Thanks this. -
Mine's got the same thing, and I've thought about a weed burner before, but didn't due to being worried about it rusting out faster, kicking up dust, getting soot on the front drive wheels, and of course carbon monoxide issues whenever I have to idle to sleep. I had a friend who's a fabricator cut out some of mine with a plasma cutter, depending on your point of view, it either made it look a little nicer, or even uglier, but it did shave a few pounds off it. If you eliminated the whole thing, I'm guessing you might save 35 lbs? Keep us informed on what and how you do it, I'd like to see how to do it if I ever change my mind.....

R.W. that looks similar to mine but the tanker outfit that had it originally had crap welded to it and then cut it of when they traded it in so it looks like crap. Then they left to water hoses and bracket to heat something up still on there so it looks stupid. I will get some pics sometime and show ya.

Try the Crapscapulator 2-600 but reinstall the fabgastulator under/over the naxfutind. Bring the oringstatad around to the bagbalm bypass and I'm guessing you'll be right near perfect.

move the exhaust to the front of the sleeper and add one to the other side.

Dredging this up. I'm not a trucker (yet). But I have a 2000 Dodge Ram with a peanut diesel 5.9L.
I've not run a muffler since near new. And shortly after pulling the muffler, I also had the resonator pulled. The resonator made more a difference than pulling the muffler, but still, it's not that loud. The turbo quietens it down a lot. Mine still runs out in the "weed burner" configuation.
My question is: Could you just run without a muffler? At the low rpm you big dawgs run, and with large diameter pipes, I bet it wouldn't be very loud. However, since you pull loaded all the time (basically), you might get sick of hearing it. But being a weed burner, that would help reduce the noise you hear. It would be much louder in the cab with stacks. -
The problem is the jake brake. My 1st truck had straights on it when I bought it. It got to the point I would wear ear plugs running across I 68. A weed burner might not be as bad for the driver as stacks up the side like mine but its still to loud for everyone else. -
I love the sound of a really loud Jake. Almost as much as I love the sound of a cammed up hot rod.

Once in awhile you can find a truck where the muffler was removed and the elbow pipe under the muffler was turned upside-down- or to the side at 90 degrees. Can you turn it 180 degrees, put a short resonator on it with another 90 degree elbow so it exhausts horizontally in front of the wheel?
Here's an old article I found:
