Hey all made it here In Ontario Cali just in time! Now it's 30 miles down the road to pick up next load and boogie on back to the state of Washington.
First time I have been to Cali and did not sit for days. With my trainer every time we came out here we sat for a few days. had this pre-plan before I even got off the yard where I loaded.
So far I am extremely happy with Swift.![]()
No food! No water or bathroom and expected to stay in truck

bluebonn, about that ABS light, each wheel has a sensor that counts vanes as the wheel turns and sends the info to the ABS computer to determine if the wheel is locked up or turning. Alot of times all it takes is running through a mud puddle and dirt flies up on a wheel sensor. Then the computer thinks it's defective and the light comes on. Then the system disables the trailer ABS and you are back to normal brakes until you get it fixed. That could be a dangerous combination on slick roads when the tractor ABS is working and the trailer ABS isn't and you are doing an emergency stop. I'd rather both be not working than just one bad. It will put you into a jack knife easier on slick roads. I'm not saying you can't control it, it just makes conditions worse.
Trailer ABS is one thing I found many shops don't like dealing with unless you have a dedicated trailer mechanic. They either feel it's not important or the last person that dropped the trailer thought it wasn't important. But you seen the DOT thought different. If you feel energetic, you can pop the sensor out and clean it off. Some are bolted on, some have a spring clip. Being company, you probably have to leave it up to the shop. -
i agree with condo..don't touch anything on the trailer regarding the breaks..they will fire you quicker than you would think.Man i am happy for you bluebonn,i hope they keep up the miles for you and keep you running.i left swift in dec because they didn't like it when i told them i'm not driving with bad tires and to replace them.after that fun little moment(3 days)i wasn't getting miles(1000 a week if lucky)and always sitting and they would never communicate with me after that. The terminal manager,my dm and even Phoenix wouldn't call me back or return messages on the qualcomm. All because 6 of the drives needed replaced and i took photos.they said they were safe and i said no and it's not moving till they are replaced.after 3 days sitting in lancaster for a b service they didn't do they decided to replace my tires.i sent the pics via email to several people in Phoenix and it all was the end of my miles after that.but they made me sit for 6 days in Mcallen tx and that was it.I dropped a load in brownsville from el paso, then had to go hunt my own trailer down because 3 hrs without a response about a trailer was to long.So i went to mcallen to another co's yard(we own them but i forgot the name)and got a trailer after i called and asked if we had any there. My dm said she attached it to me and go get 2 tires on it replaced at the t/a but didn't attach it to me after all.that took about 5 hours to get done.after that i sat at flying j there till i said i'm done.kept sending messages over the qualcomm and no reply.made numerous phone calls to everyone in edwardsville(my home term at time)and not one return call or anything.not even from term manager.it was all recorded and documented.i even had a surprise level 2 inspection on the way to get the trailer, passed with no problems and all swift said was send us the receipts from it.I was never late to pick up or deliver a load,no violations, never turned down a load but i did decline to drive a truck that the drives were coming apart on till they replaced them.Maybe it's just edwardsville, hell i just hope they don't do some of the craziness i have seen to you bud.

This is a brief and short telling of part of the crap i went through with swift...:
I paid my own way to get to orientation(recruiter said they couldn't)and that i would be reimbursed which i wasn't.145 mile bus ride to kc from columbia,mo(i lived in fulton) took forever to get there and i was a day early(bus schedule)Was griped at for that by the guy that answered the phone and had to pick me up.Orientation went smooth and was told i would go out for 50hrs with a mentor.Waited 11 more days for a mentor till 1 showed up(glenn).in 1 weeks time on trainers truck they sent messages steadily increasing the time out to 240 hrs.My trainer was pissed and would send messages back asking why they keep changing everything.no reply back to him on it.then when training was done and time for upgrade they tried to say i was short on hours by 66 hrs and short on backs by 10.we both said that it was bs and recounted everything in front of them and they still argued for a couple hrs till they let it go.then dan johnson the fleet manager said they have no trucks available and i would have to wait till a truck came in.Some lease ops that i made friends with called their term managers who called me and gave me lists of trucks, numbers, makes and models available at all the terminals in the country and said dan was messing with me(and more). He didn't like that i had a list of trucks and how i got it so he threatened me and my job in the big conference room in front of my dm.So i opened the door and told him loudly to restate what he just told me in front of everyone else and to include threatening my job.the term manager came and talked to me and then had dan apologize and to explain how there is no trucks when in fact i had proof there was.I sat for 14 days till that happened and then was sent to denver to get my truck.sat there 3 days before they gave me a load to salt lake.after that load is when i discovered how useless my dm was.she gave me a load from salt lake to illinois that was already 5 days late and wanted it there the same day.i called her and told her if i accept it that i would have it there on a certain day and time no less because i am solo and the load is already late.she said ok.then she waited till i was within 70 miles of the drop to tell me that i have to sit on the load till monday morning.and laughed about it and told me thats what i get for being late and hung up.So i called Minneapolis term and not only dropped it there for a shuttle crew but had another load waiting. That's a drop in the bucket of the stuff i went through with her and swift. -
Well, how about starting your own thread in "bad trucking companies" and tell your whole story rather than hijacking someone else's thread so's ya can b**** all you want?
Do you have another job now, or did Swift sc*** you on that, too?
Just askin.trucker_101 Thanks this. -
....what a debbie downer.....
This has BY FAR turned from a HORRIFIC THREAD to a TERRIFIC THREAD!!!
Keep the posts coming bluebonn!! -
OMG what a day!
So last night I get to where I am suppose to be right near L.A at 11:30 CST time. Load had to be there by midnight. get Un loaded around 2am and then go right up the street to the TA to take my 10.
As I was going around the parking lot looking for a place to park I noticed this white security car following me everywhere I decided to turn. So I found me a spot and started to back up between two trucks and the little white car vanished behind my trailer. So GOAL and then he backs up. I get back into the truck and go to back up again and he moves again where I cannot see him.
This freakin idiot did this to me two times while I was trying to back and I finally got out and said get the hell out of my way I am tired and you are keeping me from backing up. He finally takes off and I was so tired and pissed I just gave up on that spot and went to find a easy spot.
Well I found one where all I had to do was pull in frontwards. I get in there but the trailer is not straight and need to back up and here the fool comes again!! This time i was extremely mad and said get the hell out of my way or I will move you myself.
I have no idea what this idiots problem was but I was tired of him.. Next day took me 40 minutes just to get out of the parking lot due to having to pay when you left. Everyone decided to leave when I did.
Now I have not found one thing I could say bad about Swift until now!
Fuel stops! I have been having an issue with them trying to send my 500 miles on a quarter of a tank loaded. I took the advice here and dropped my numbers down a notch and they still try to do this.
Today I was going to go up I5 heading to Washington. Not a problem right? Well you would think that it would be simple. Well it was not. Sent me a route with my fuel stop way way way up where I would never reach!
Ask for a re-op and then they send me to Harbor truckstop down in Long Beach. WTH this is the other way and is not in a good area to be going at 3PM in the afternoon I soon found out. Get there and there pumps decided to stop working. Truck traffic everywhere! This place is smaller than your local convenience store! The truck wash area was bigger than the truckstop.
I cannot believe they even send Swift drivers there. That place is an accident waiting to happen with all the truck traffic and cars. Plus you do not get directions to turn left or right off the highway. You are left to find it yourself.
So I finally get a few gallons to get me up to my fuel stop and head back out onto the highway. Traffic for two hours stop and go all the way past the LAX.
So after I messed with waiting on an empty on the last load that caused me to get to the consignee just in time and I already accepted another pre-plan that loaded the next day. I had taken my 10 hour break and could not leave the TA until around noon today!
I had to pick up the next load today by 2PM I got there at 1PM and got out of there at 3PM then to the stupid Harbor truckstop and so on. This load is 1104 miles and delivers on 3/31 between 7 and 9 am.
Now the last load got screwed up by not having an empty until late in the afternoon causing me to almost be late. I already accepted another pre-plan before I even got loaded.
So now with all this happening I cannot make it to the consignee ontime. My plan was to drive 550 miles today and then drive another 550 on 3/30 putting me there the night before.
But the waiting on an empty and then having to go to that truckstop put me way off schedule due to all the things above.
So I do a mac 22 and then send a message to my terminal letting them know I am still 815 miles out from delivering. Terminal messages me back saying no you are only 611. Oh no I am 815.
I guess the planners don't understand that I have to take another 10 and won't be able to leave where I am at now until noon and then shut it down again around midnight stilll probably 170 to 200 miles away. I still have to go on 97 and I have no idea what to expect on that road.
Swift needs to work on the fuel routes for me because today cost me a few hours when I could have easily been sent to one of the Pilots. Loves or Ta's that I passed by. But no got to send me right into L.A traffic just to get 85 gallons and maybe save a few pennies.
So what do I do now because really this was not my fault. I had enough time to do both pre-plans but me having to wait until late in the afternoon for an empty and running around L.A blew this pre-plan all to hell.
Will I get a service failure because I did not get it there ontime? I sent in a 22 and even sent my terminal a message. Going to call my dispatcher in the morning. This was done tonight and the load does not deliver until 3/31
Hope I don't because this was out of my control. If I would have had an empty and not been loaded late I would have made my first pre-plan with plenty of time to take my 10 and get up early the next day and load the next pre-plan and been gone.
Plus I have not been able to take a shower for three days now! No time!! I will be taking one tomorrow I guarantee you that!!Rotten Thanks this. -
Suggestion for future reference. The computer does all that stuff automatically. If you are down to 50 gallons, you should still be able to go at least 200 miles on it. Get out of the city first then send your request for fuel....or call your DM and ask to have your card opened up for fuel at a specific t/s. If you were at one of the T/As in Ontario, go inside and get their Comdata code, give that to your DM when you call to request fuel. Should be able to have your card opened for emergency fuel. 50 gallons (I believe) will get you out the gate without having to pay...or $25 in store/restaurant receipts.
What kind of fuel mileage are you getting with that truck?
There are terminals on your way up I-5...one at Lathrop and one at Willows, both in California. Maybe get your shower at one of them so you don't have to pay for it? Terminal codes for directions: Lathrop-215660, Willows-88653.Rotten Thanks this. -
On the Volvo 670's which side is the cb antenna and which side is the fm/stereo antenna, or is one side both and the other the TV antenna?
-
I gave up on trying to press things that hard....you have to allow for things to go wrong...sux....I had to deliver and be at the next pickup on a tight time frame this morning....yep...rain...mountains... fog... construction...then a fuel stop before going to shipper..lol...they keep my tank full all the time...oh well.. oh course it was a live load, and I knew that ...was 45 minutes late and didn't do a mac 22...still got loaded..hope they don't narc on me...smacro 1 was after load time...we'll see...
