When my old 25 started giving problems we put in a new one that been tuned. The difference is like night and day. The old one talks alot louder and cleaner with alittle more base in the tone and it will walk all over the new 25s. I do think the new one has a tad better recieve but over all I will take 1 old 25 over 3 new 25s. The new 25 is now setting in a closet at work. I wonder if the 29s are the same way.

Good question. I've often heard the old "they don't make them as good as they used to" when it comes to older electronics, to include CB's.

I've had people tell me my Cobra 21 is a loud talker, even as a barefoot radio complete with a stock coffin mic. Except for the dick heads at the Oak Grove, MO Petro who tried belittling me by saying "you and that old ### radio". :sign5:

That's ok, they're probably the same ones that "think" you need to run a General Lee with the echo wide open and a foot warmer....just to talk across the parking lot. :smt011

I have a Cobra 29 classic I bought in 1982 or 1983. I wouldn't trade that radio for any new one. I installed a connex board and RK 56 Road King Mic and had it tuned and it puts out 15 watts. Sucker is tough. I've had it in about 6 different trucks and its been mounted about every way you can. It's never let me down and no one ever complained about not hearing me. It's like and old friend now and I can still find the knobs in the dark. Mine was manufactured in the Philippines. They quit making them there in 1985 or 1986 I think. If you can find one , in my opinion, they're one Hell of a radio.

My 25 is a 89 ant its from the pines I wonder if the Taiwan ones the earlyest are as good or better then the pines one. I was going to get a new 29 with the wx nw and bt but now kind of having second thoughts. To bad someone can't rerorfit the new features on an old 29 chassis. Id pay big bucks for one. I listened to the differences first hand in another truck. The new ones sound almost like a hollow sound compared to the older ones. I wish everyone could here the difference in the sounds like this. I am thinking the best set up would be putting my little amp behind one of the old 29s with and oldstyle sounding echoboard. Not the new digital endless echo and things of the new.

I have one of each. The old one has the mic mount on the side. It wasn't transmitting and I havent had a chance to get to that one yet.
