That is exactly the reason I want to leave Serbia and come to Canada. Its because I want to WORK and NOT to discuss, argue, go into politics or pretend that the world owes me so I expect everything to fall down from the sky like most people here. You guys in Canada do work a lot, but after you get out from the truck after 2 weeks and you look into the wallet you know why you did all that.
For example, you got a situation like this: father and son drive as a team in a certain company, and after 4 months of non-stop driving the owner says I still got no money to pay you, but as a guaranty I will give you a car(that is worth more than those salaries but you cant sell it coz its too expensive for registration and so on) and you can't sue him because he gave you a useless car. I'm sick and tired of that, I'm eager to work!
You got things like that happening in Canada? I honestly doubt it!

And yet there are companies all over Canada looking for drivers. One can easily make $60k+ driving, so the wages aren't bad. Freight will always move, whether there was a shortage or not of drivers. A way is always found to move it.
And I agree, Canada doesn't need to import drivers right now. The government needs to deport the lazy ### drivers with ####ty attitudes first, I guess. THEN, import more employable drivers. -
Things similar to this can happen here too, if you drive for the wrong person. Work for awhile, promising to be paid. Then, not paid your whole wage, but just enough to see you through the next week or so. When you go to quit, he holds all of your wages, and if you go to sue, he closes up shop, moves on, and starts new under a different name.
Canada isn't all roses and sunshine, my friend, HOWEVER, I'm sure it's better than Serbia. -
60K is chump change, especially when you take $200 a week/10K a year of AFTER tax earnings and spend it to live on the road. -
And you're joking, right?
If you feel 60k is chump change, then maybe you need to look into what the average wage is in Canada. The average for 2008(latest year stascan has) for an unattached individual is $31k/yr(after tax). I don't see how $60k/yr(around $47k/yr after tax) is chump change.
Also, you're using AFTER tax earnings to live, no matter where you live. In a truck, or in a house, so that argument doesn't hold any weight. Also, why are you spending $200/wk? What the hell are you buying on the road?trucker_101 Thanks this. -
60K a year to run OTR and be gone 250 nights or more a year is peanuts. Plain and simple. Add 20K to that and now you're beginning to talk!
Look at a menu, buy a shower here and there. $200 for 7 days on the road is not an unrealistic amount of money to spend. It doesn't cost me near that to buy groceries for a week at home so your theory is incorrect. Yeah, you can cook and eat balogna in a truck if you have to, that gets really old in a hurry! My employer pays me a per diem so the meal and shower costs don't have a negative impact on my earnings.
60K might be a big wage in Stubblejump, Mb but, in the real world it's not enough to do much on. You sure won't buy a home or raise kids on that pittance. -
If you don't like being gone for 250 nights of the year, more money to do it isn't the answer. Find a new job. 60k is fine money for that.
Don't look at menus. Don't buy showers, as you get them free with fuel. I eat chicken, beef, pork, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, lentils, beans, and eggs when on the road. No bologna here. Take 2 5 gallon jugs of water with you, 3 water bottles to fill, and a small cooler to keep the water cold. The only thing I buy on the road is coffee. I might spend $75/wk for everything. Therefore, my theory is quite sound. Your purchasing habits are too varied from home to road, is all.
If you can't live on 60k, maybe you need to move to Stubblejump MB with me. I have a house, wife, 2 kids, 2 vehicles, and all on my measly $60k/yr. Only debt I have is the house, and that won't be for too long. Or, maybe you need to get your spending under control, if that's the issue.trucker_101 Thanks this. -

Any company dealing in ltl will find a way to milk you. Hence the reasons why laws are getting stricter in north America. Ltl companies try to under bid then force the driver to work for less. Stay away from ltl flat decking van trailers. The big bucks are in oilfield , logging , and minning. It also has the longest hours worked most pay is by percentage. If your good the big companies pay per hour but don't abuse it. You get a bad rep real quick if your charging while waiting to load. Read a book. Most loads are very time sensitive take 6to 6 3/4 hours 14 hour days not uncommon. Mr Serbia your either a very learned man for your English skills or you have someone translating for you. My grammer and sentance structure may be a little lacking do to my use of a cellular phone. I'm an owner operator ill contact you directly. My family once immigrated here as has every non Indian.
