Agreed. I actually have been looking at getting into the field of hauling radioactive materials. I think I am gonna give them a call and see if they hire outta NC.

I Am an o/o with pgt trucking. The parent company of southern pines. They do a lot of haz may not specifecly radioactive. I see the trucks alot and it usually just the basic haz mat stuff. And if they are hauling radio active stuff it's gonna be in an indestructible container. It's not as dangerous as you would think. Just sayin.

I'm a driver for southern pines. Yes we haul quite a bit of class 7 / radioactive low specific activity material. Its safe as long as you use some discretion, And its safely enclosed in boxes so no glowing afterwards either
I have been with them awhile and have no complaints, most of the pgt drivers, our sister company, seem happy as well.
Flip Flops Thanks this. -
Hey RADflatbedder82. Thanks for the info! How do you like over there? how often do you pull hazmat? Is it decent pay and hometime? Any problems with the apu's on the prostars. Sorry for the all the questions. I just want to know how it is over there as im seriously considering applying. Thanks in advance for any answers you may give.

Any Southern Pines drivers still on this thread? Wondering how long you've been working for them and how you would rate them as an employer. Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

I worked with S. Pines for a little over a year, 5 stars as for employer, hometime depends on where you live but at least every other weekend, I was home nearly every weekend and sometimes during the week. Plenty of freight to keep you moving, hazmat is biggest during spring and fall, 75% of which was RAD loads.
Mike, the sole dispatcher is a great guy, honest, and a pleasure to work for. Great equipment and no recaps on tractors or trailers. Pay is great and the miles are there if you want them. They also have some liquid oxygen and nitrogen runs out west that pay very well and its easy work but you must be willing to stay out for a few months.
I quit and came off the road for awhile since my daughter was about to start sc kindergarten but I plan to go back on the road next year, and s. Pines will be my first pic. Hope the information helps. Good luck and be safe.Pharroh336 Thanks this. -
Thanks RADflatbedder! Always heard good things about PGT and was hoping for the same with southern pines. What kind of Haz Mat would you haul via flatbed? I would assume class 7 Radioactive but you know what happens when you assume.

It is predominantly RAD as far as hazmat goes, there were a few explosive loads here and there but those were dedicated drivers. All of the trailers are 48footers no headache racks, but enclosed chain boxes on the back of cabs. Every once in awhile might luck out and get a Conestoga for a few weeks. During the off season(no hazmat) we pull lots of coils and pipe loads, lots of steel, I never pulled any wallboard loads or anything. All in all, if you know how to run legally and safely and work hard, there is good money to be made.
