At this point i think i can declare with authority that the three things standing in my way towards making decent money in trucking are in order:
1) Less-than-honorable co-workers (other self-centered drivers)
2) Less-than-honorable managers/wacko/sociopathic managers
3) Myself
The government ISN'T the problem here. If you're willing to look for it AND go to work consistently---this means go to work everyday if you're local and if you're OTR, run the miles, you should be able to bag 55K-65K no problem. With a little more effort 80K- maybe 100K should be obtainable.
Personally, i think other drivers and managers are the real problem towards making money in trucking. (before it was me). The gov't isn't the problem----after 11 hours of driving and/or 14 hrs on duty i'm pretty tired anyways. i think $250 gross after 11 hours is not too bad.
Whats the potential pay really like out there?
