i hate to have to be the one that tells you this (but i will anyway), but you are now "damaged goods" and the chances of the employer taking you back are none to none.....
you only worked there 2 1/2 weeks and already you got hurt...?? and filing a Workman's Comp claim..??
good luck..oh you WILL collect, but your job will not be there when you recover....
expect to go thru a full physical again for yet another employer, and THAT IS IF someone else will hire you now....think how that looks, very short time employed, and already getting hurt, suing the company for insurance money, and anything else..do you realistically think that your (now former employer) will want you back...??
yes, HAVE A LAWYER ON STAND BY, have him/her "up to speed" on your situation, but ONLY CALL HIM if the company puts you thru some BS...
be forewarned.....if you get "let go" and by the way, you can be "let go" during your recovery time, the lawyer cannot get your job back..there are NO LAWS that say an employer HAS TO KEEP YOU......do not forget, "hire at will" applies to just about ALL jobs.......
you can be "let go" and the insurance will only cover some items, not all..you may be required to pay for extra x-rays, medicines, therapy, beyond what the workman's comp will pay...
if your company decides to "let you go"....you may not be eligible to collect unemployment, as the injury was YOUR FAULT....they can claim you DID NOT FOLLOW ANY company procedure in regards to walking the ramp..maybe you were wearing sneakers, running shoes, something other than work boots/shoes..
you need to watch what your driver-trainer tells the company....
i wish you well, but i will also expect the worst for you in the days ahead...and you had better as well.....
injured on the job

There is a lot of truth to Rerun's post. (as usual.) This is why you NEED A LAWYER.
Yes, getting injured just 2 to 3 weeks into the job looks bad. VERY BAD. It will look even worse if you have ever had another OTJ injury that you filed workers comp for. But the facts of life are the way they are. If you got hurt on the job, you got hurt on the job.
GET A LAWYER. -

I thought that it was illegal in most states to fire or refuse to hire someone based on a former compensation claim...

You can make excuses for not hiring. In trucking, there's a 1001 ways to get a driver to quit.
