Question 14: How must a Commercial Motor Vehicle CMV driver driving a non-Commercial Motor Vehicle CMV at the direction of a motor carrier record this time?
Guidance: If Commercial Motor Vehicle CMV drivers operate motor vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)s of 10,000 pounds or less at the direction of a motor carrier, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires those drivers to maintain records of duty status and record such time operating as on-duty (not driving). -
(1) Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater; or
(2) Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or
(3) Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or
(4) Is used in transporting material found by the Secretary of Transportation to be hazardous under 49 U.S.C. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding under regulations prescribed by the Secretary under 49 CFR, subtitle B, chapter I, subchapter C. -
So does that mean that I am excempt from using a logbook when I am not pulling a Trailer ?? That is what I am confused about
-
Who edits these things? And what the hell is a non-Commercial Motor Vehicle Commercial Motor Vehicle? It either is or it isn't. -
Read post 456 again.
I answered it once already.
You have to log it. -
He's wondering why. Because you have to justify moving from one town to another. DOT has to be able to look at that logbook and not have questions. If you didn't log the return trip, who's to say you didn't haul a trailer back. If you are required to log, then do it 24/7.

(DUI VS POSTIVE DRUG TEST) WHY CAN YOU GET A JOB AFTER A DUI but not a postive drug test
-
And in that lies Why I asked the question/s that I have asked . I wanted to know with out a uncertainy if it was DOT Regulations or company policy to require the logbook . If it was company policy and NOT DOT regulations I would argure the point with the company I am currently pulling for ,So I could save logbook hours for making more runs to deliver trailers for both of us . I wonder what other 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickups would do if they also needed to log all of there driving hours even if they weren't being used to pull any kind of a trailer at the time ????
