the attitude of the "new breed of driver"

no offence to your experience driver,as i also am now experienced, but..the fact that you think this way, is dangerous in itself in my opinion..while yes your experience does make a difference..the fact that you admit to the fact that your senses are NOT on high alert all the time now...supports exactly what i have been trying to say...i pray that you dont "miss" something whilst you are driving.."laid back"...the point is...dont ever be laid back cuz thats when it will bite ya

 

i would also like to make sure and clarify something as you can see in my profile it says 3 yrs experience...this is actual otr freight hauling experience not the mobile home hauling experience, end dumps, oilfeild water tanker,concrete truck,etc...just otr frieght 3 years total of that...been a trucker since 1995...16 years of exp...the 3 yrs includes being a lease driver otr...not trying to brag ...just wanted everyone to understand im not that new...

 

i stand corrected on that then..but does bring up a new point i beleive in....when a trainer is training a new driver...the truck should not be run team style that trainer is not training anything while asleep...training trucks should be run only as solo trucks and the trainer should be required to be in passenger seat..the whole idea of running trainees like this is simply to take advantage of them...and not to train them safely....who agrees?...(be advised that after this post i will be away from my keyboard for a couple hours at least...will join back in later)

How many 25 year olds do you hear about that have mistaken the brake for the throttle and drove through a store front? I think that's mostly an old guy/old lady deal, and i don't need a made up number to convince me of that.

You seriously didn't hear of that happening? It was all over the news in 2010. Elderly couple crashing through a Walmart, old man running over people on a crowded sidewalk, and a dozen more similar accidents. Crashes like this have become so frequent the government was considering enstating new laws regarding the elderly driving (frequent road testing after a certain age, losing licenses, etc.).

I don't need to post statistics - google it, it happens all the time.

The ones from the surge in 1990 or the one from the "Company's"

Well that depends on what drivers you are talking to--My dad(and Uncle etc)still calls me a new breed steering wheel holder--course they are all 85+
and I have been driving since 73--
BUT--most of my driving--(since 77 anyway)has been with only 1gear stick--a/c and power steering!
So who really is a new breed--depends on who you ask!
Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
