Well, I did my time at Swift, then did a local nightly run for them. After that I got a tip on a local job working on base. Now, I'm making $22.60/hr with a $3.50/hr going into 401k on top of that. Note: that $3.50 is to pay for benefits, but I'm a disabled/retired vet so I have full medical.

I sent in a resume cataloging my military training, CDL driving experience and the job I'd had as a service tech. After the interview, the company (Mantech) basically begged me to hire on. It turned out that most the guys they were hiring had little to no Class A experience. My source in the company overheard the manager saying that they were desperate for guys with my experience.

If you live near a military base, check to see what CDL opportunities are there. They pay very well.

    Good luck R/T.

Palazon my GF wants me to move in with her. She is closer to Clarksville TN. I am about 45mi. from there. Tell me more about that kind of stuff!

I worked at Lowe's selling carpet for 1 1/2 years. Got fired. Lotsa BS.

That was in West Nashville. The local store has a former manager from that store. He didn't fire me. The new manager did. I asked if he knew anyone local looking for a driver. He told me to apply there! Told me if I didn't steal, do drugs, or beat someone up he would hire me.

He has one guy that is out on medical. He doesn't think that guy will be back.

$17 an hour, probably 1 weekend off+ 1 Sunday. 6mi from the house. Lowe's sucks. But I will have some week days off to look for another job.

I am actually going to talk to Swift about pulling local stuff out of the Antioch TN yard, or shuttle.

I have a friend that starts tomorrow in doing a dedicated run in Orlando. $165 a day 5-6 days a week. They have to have something like that here.

Most of the big LTL's like Conway, UPS, and FedEx want on-line apps now so going to their terminals would be a waste of time.
What happens is that the apps get sent electronically to corporate HR and HR screens the apps and then forwards them on to the local terminal manager.
At FedEx, they would send 15 at a time.
So it's best to monitor their websites often under the "Careers" section, especially this time of year as most LTL's are hiring right about now.
If YRCW were to go out of business, all of the LTL's would be hiring ALOT of guys nationwide, so keep your ear to the grindstone.

I came home from being out on the road and wanted to try and get something local so I went to my fathers work hoping maybe him being a employee he could help me with getting in. I now work with my dad, although he did not get me the job him working there assisted in me getting it. I walked in filled the app and spoke with the owner. from there he asked me for a driving record which I showed him. after that he didnt like me as much and didnt want to hire. From that point on until I walked out the door I had to do everything I could do to convince him I was the man for the job and I was born a worker not some bum that sits around all day and sux up the pay. I got the job and started that following monday.
(not that my driving record is the worst out there but I have a small list of violations however all are over 5 years old. The point Im getting at I guess is going in and speaking with the head person will go a long ways. My dad helped but it was up to me to convince him after seeing my record)

    good luck
