Ok, so I've now seen 5 people drink mustard on the way to their DOT physical, and one guy talked about drinking pickle juice, in an attempt to get your BP below the required numbers. I just don't get it, when I ask them why they do it I always get a similar answer "I aint takin' those pills!".
I get being scared of modern medicine and stuff like that, but why stay in a regulated profession and let your uncontrolled BP be the reason you can no longer make a living? Oh and isn't drinking mustard gross, I mean a little on a hot dog isn't bad but chugging from the French's container seems gross.

Drinking pickle juice was an old trick to hide the speed with some of the old single-sample piss tests 20+ years ago. Seems to have worked. So I've been told.

Pickle juice and mustard have a high concentration of vinegar. Old wive's tale with a bit of merit. It will lower you Blood Sugar and Blood presure, but only if taken everyday for months..
People like you descibed are disasters waiting to happen and need to be removed from the highways -
Take a couple of aspirin, no caffiene, no excited talking and flailing about while telling trucker stories...
And the best choice is still to get checked by a doctor and go on BP meds--- not like they're poison, they help with the poor choices you've made on diet and exercise, or make up for genetic BP issues.celticwolf Thanks this. -
I fully agree, I'm thinking I need to have a talk with the safety director at my company to see if we can not hire new employees that are scheming to pass a DOT physical. Seems to me that this is only marginally better than tampering with a urine specimen.
But on the other hand I don't really know what I'm talking about. -
Did some checking, and pickle juice (and pickles in general) are SKY HIGH in sodium... which blows your BP through the roof - so pickle juice makes it worse, not better.

So then, these folks drinking the pickle juice. . .
Is it DILL pickle juice?
Are they also craving ice cream?
Are they female?
Did their rabbit die?

It is a natural blood thinner and it is not a problem for people to use for moderately low sided high blood pressure.
It takes a while for the sodium to have an effect and if they are able to keep it on the lower side, then the certification is issued.
But, not a good idea for the regular high blood pressure problems.
Also seems to be hard way to do it when other options are out there besided medicine.
