It is all about the money, just like in the U.S. It is easy to think of Canada as a part of the United states, but it is a different country with different rules. Much as the two countries are similar, there are differences in some of the laws. If you ignore the French signage and the kph rather than mpg, there isn't much difference on the surface. We must abide by Canadian laws when we enter their country, just as they must obey ours when then cross into this country. There are probably reasons that a Canadian could be turned away at our border.
us citizen with dui 8 years ago allowed to enter canada?

It's the law. Abide by it or stay home.
Now if the DUI involved running down people and killing them while you're driving........would it bring Dahmer and Bundy to mind????Last edited: Apr 8, 2011
trucker_101 Thanks this. -
Maybe you are not old enough to remember but Dahmer and Bundy were American serial killers.
Bundy murdered little girls and Dahmer killed gays and ate them.
Laws are supposed to protect people not make money or prove a point. -
look at it this way jjack--in canada i could walk down the street and smoke a joint and --might get told to put it out--but i wont be arrested
and if i were to try that in the us ????
now which is the lesser of the two evils ?--smoking a joint--or driving impaired -
I'm 69 years old and remember Dahmer and Bundy....what's your point???? Neither one of them would be allowed in Canada.trucker_101 Thanks this.

Instead of getting into multi-quote hell even more,
lets try and get back to the original question. I still say that the chances are 95% or greater that the driver would not be allowed to enter Canada. UNLESS they were to jump thru all the hoops and burning rings of fire before hand, and I really don't think a driver that gets the odd load to Canada is willing to do this. And' if he does not state if he wasn't asked if he ever had a DUI then I will go back to what I said before, He is in Canada Illegally.
On this we (1) agree, he would be illegally. Thats what I've been saying all along, just not very well it seems.
I have since found out that you are correct on this. And it seems they can issue Temporary permits. But I still don't think it happens very often.
Emphasis below is mine.
News Release
National 2011
Fort Frances port of entry monthly enforcement highlights
On January 28, a U.S. resident of Wisconsin presented himself at the Fort Frances POE for a snowmobiling and fishing trip to Nestor Falls. Background checks revealed two previous convictions for driving under the influence and a third conviction for disorderly conduct. The individual was unaware of his inadmissibility and was forthcoming with information regarding his convictions. The individual was issued a Temporary Resident Permit for the duration of his trip and allowed into Canada since the convictions were more than 10 years old. He was also counseled on the criminal conviction rehabilitation process and how to obtain rehabilitation for future trips.

"Important Information Offences involving operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs where five years have not elapsed since the termination of the sentence will, with very rare exceptions, render persons criminally inadmissible to Canada - and therefore in need of a Temporary Resident Permit to enter Canada for any purpose and any length of time.
If five years have not passed since the end of the sentence imposed and/or you have urgent and compelling reasons for entry to Canada within the next 6 months, you must apply for a Temporary Resident Permit to enter Canada.
There must be compelling reasons for an officer to issue a Temporary Resident Permit to allow a person who does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to enter or remain in Canada.

I don't think telling them "My load has to get to xyz-mart before noon or I'll get in trouble with my boss" will work.
Yup, they should, but that won't help the driver thats going to TRY to cross the border in 2 days. Because like it says above, it's rare that you get a permit. -
If it were me I would call and ask rather than speculating here. It is always better to go directly to the source.
-
if you are going to be crossing(hopefully)--for a job--it would be wise to apply for a fast card--that removes all doubt if you can come and go--and it also works if you want to cross on a holiday or such---it gives a person piece of mind that is for sure

Girls can walk around TOPLESS in Ontario Canada and its LEGAL , here we need to call it SPRING BREAK

Canasda has no DEATH penalty just life in prison ( 25 years ) , here we keep them on DEATH ROW for 25 years after giving them the DEATH PENALTY. -
some girls that walk around topless---well they just shouldnt--there should be a license or permit for going topless-like a droopy test if they dont bounce and gravity has taken its toll--maybe no permit
