Called up a recruiter about my app they said crete would be interested in me,called back about two days later and said they wanted me to stay with my current employer 8 more months before re-applying because i'm a "job hopper"...sorry crete but if I can't get a straight answer from the first recruiter about my application then you just plain don't know what you're doing, wanna talk about bad first impressions? yeah i'd say this is one.You don't split the red sea and I'm pretty sure you can't walk on water---OUT

For sure....I talked to them last year, at the time I was out of a truck for 18 months due to an illness, prior to that I've been driving for over 20 years,
saw an add for Crete the quote was something like this
"1 year currant OTR experience may not be necessary if you have a good employment record"

Yeah well, in 20 years I've had 2 jobs... 1 for 8 years the other for 12, AND they actually were the same company, it changed name when it was bought out, and we all had to be re-hired...
    Anyway Crete Recruiter told me..

"Well we really need you to have MORE experience...You should return to school"... Then get on with someone for at least 6-12 months then we'd love to talk to you"

Yeah OK...Get right on that....Not to sure about their thinking, they'll give a kid right out of school a job, but no anyone with any experience...

Well if they want somebody who fresh out of their "training company" to say "i'm going to go with crete and nobody else, until i reach that goal my whole life revolves around that company" then they ain't recruiting the right person.(me)

    Wise up, guys.

All of these big companies hire by formula. If you don't drop exactly in the slots, they way they have the slots configured, you don't count.

If you worked for carriers who don't report to DAC, as far as they are concerned you weren't 'driving'.

They have figured out who will be the easiest to process under the standards they have set up, and pass on the rest.
It's not just Crete, it's every big company. It doesn't mean much about your skills or experience.

the big companies are run by their insurance providers.

Insurance doesn't look at hiring driver to driver. They lay down a blanket statement and if you dont happen to fall right in line then you're 'useless' to them.

The smaller "mom and pop" companies might not pay as much, but the working environment is so much better. Granted, I've only been driving about a year. But people I went through training with went on to some of the "big" companies. I drive for a small company of about 30 trucks. His dad started the business. He runs it fair. I dont get paid top wages, but it's comparable to the industry. The trucks aren't special but they're maintained well. If you have a problem just bring it in and it'll get fixed. After working here I don't think I can ever go to one of the 'big' companies. It's nice being able to call the owner and ##### about my A/C not working, not just some no-named "DM" who couldn't give 2 craps if you're stuck in Georgia low on Freon. If I drive for a month and want to take a long weekend off, he's fine with it. As long as it doesn't happen too often he'll let a few extra days slide once in a while. Not like the big companies my friends drive for, you go home for a couple days and BOOM, if you're not in your truck ready to go they're on your ###. I dont take many days off anyway, if the wheels aren't turning, my account isn't growing.
