Are you limited as to where you can cross the border for customs?
In a hurry, want to mimize miles, got time and want to sight see, etc.
All of those factors will determine what kind of suggestions you'll get. -
No sight-seeing on this trip. Just interested in the shortest/quickest route.

I don't go north of the 39th, but it's my understanding you have to cross at a certain boarder crossing. Thus, limiting your choices of route. You should probably call your dispatcher or somebody and find out which crossing you are supposed to use and plan your trip based off that.

it would add about 100 miles if you went up to Winnepeg and then across. And you might make better time than doing the diagonal on smaller roads, but again it will depend on where you are cleared for customs to cross.
If you have a choice where you can cross, you might want to think about your cell phone costs too! With Verizon, if you do not have a Canadian package, voice is 69 cents a minute and data is around 7 cents a KILObyte! It's outrageously expensive! So this might be a factor for you to stay in the USA til the last possible minute. -
Hello, what company do you work for that they send you all the way to Alberta Canada,I heard that there are many jobs for truck drivers in Alberta in the OILSAND Fields,Can you find out while you are in Alberta? Thanks
-
i've done the crossing at Portal/North portal a few times---- hwy 52, then changes to 39 as 101 pointed out.
But for some reason i get lost up there real easy(before crossing into sask), i don't know why---maybe it's just me.
But yeah, this is probably the best route for you. -
Your route depends on where you're cleared to cross the border.
