Dude START TONIGHT looking for a new job. There are companies that will hire you. Even with 6 months. For example Watkins Shepard will give you a 10 day training if you don't have enough experience. They have a pretty good reputation.
Another thing to keep in mind if you get in a wreck YOU as the driver/commander of the ship, will get hung out to dry. You as the driver hold the control of when the truck moves and when it doesn't. Time spent in jail/fines and the stress of a wreck will not do your family any good.
There are other companies.
Like to work 20 hrs a day? Trans-Am F.A.C. division is for you!

First to Class 441: Yes I get a preplan, and yes I am force dispatched. I have seen many of my preplans and told them I couldn't make it ahead of time. Immediately the messages start coming on how to make it. the dispatchers know what the computer looks for in logs and tell me how to log it so it appears kosher. They frequently send me semi-cryptic messages telling me what to do to run illegal without being too overt. Ultimately if they don't see the truck start moving they send me two or three messages every five minutes until it does start moving. Finally they will call me on my cell and tell me to drive.
I don't know what tjgosurf was talking about he obviously has never really worked for FAC or done my job. I don't mind doing a little bit here or there, but what I'm expected to do is beyond all sanity or reason.
Second to Brickman: I've allready started today applying for jobs. I hope to be out of this one very soon. I have to go out again in 7 hours and really don't want to but have little choice. I would love to turn the truck in and walk, but I have to pay the bills. We simply can't afford a month of unemployment.
Third to all you: Thank-you for your advice. When I get back I will read any other replies and post you on my progress.
I hope this thread doesn't dissapear under the other Trans-Am heading or nobody will ever see it.
In the meantime I will absolutely start refusing loads even if it means 1500 miles a week. I need the money, but can't take the stress anymore. I really don't want to kill somebody.
I have had days where everything ran smoothly, didn't work overimte, and actually enjoyed my job. I hope I can find a company where that happens more often.
Thank-you all, take care, I'll get back with you in a couple weeks. -
Best of luck man, I do not envy you in the least, and do not want to ever be in your shoes. Once you get some more experience you won't have to ever again either.

I just flat out wouldn't make the run on time, and I would note on the computer what my ETA was, and also note that I could not deliver the load on time legally.
I would have a recorder ready to record dispatch if they called me on the phone afterwards to give me grief, then my very next phone call would be to the safety department.
If I didn't get some help at that point, or if they started trying to starve me, I would either take legal action or find another job. -
1. State to you dispatcher you do not have the hours to haul it via the computer when load info sent.
2. If accept give eta of arrival. Legally.
3 Run it Legal.
If your logs are checked it is your Hide that will have to pay the fine, not the Company, not your dispatcher, but you. Once your more experienced you'll know how to say no more.
Example from my own experience.
A Company I ran for would run me from Atlanta to NJ twice a week. They would wait till I 5PM to dispatch a load going 889 miles away and had an appointment time of 8 AM.
One day I was in Florida empties out in Homestead Florida and dead heading back to Atlanta.. I was asked to pick up a load in Atlanta, and be in Charlotte, NC the next morning by 7AM. I told the Dispatcher I could not make it, physically nor Legally. Was I given the bad loads anymore? No, I started to get better loads. -
A lot of new people, in any job situation, don't know all the resources available to them. That's when the more experienced workers should take them under their wings and show them how to get along in their new career. This poor guy has started a very tough career, he has a family at home depending on him, and he just probably has no clue where to turn or what to do. It is not easy to up and quit your job, plus, he admits that he is new and he wants to make sure that he isn't expecting too much. If everyone on here tells him that what he is experiencing is normal, then he knows that nothing will change even if he changes companies and he either needs to toughen up or get out. But if everyone else on this board is supportive of him and tells him to get out, that the grass really is greener, it gives him a better idea. When you are in a bad situation, it can be hard to actually believe that you have the power to take control and change it. Ease up on the newbie.

Watkins Shepard starts you pretty low on the cents per mile. I have also "heard" that if you are a driver from the East, you can be away from home for extended periods. But, that is better than doing a droopy eyed crash-n-burn.

I don't think that's what he was saying, but if in fact he does do that he'll find himself booted off this forum in a hurry. Company snitches are NOT welcome here.

You must have missed the part about Trans Am F A C. Now I have no clue what F A C stands for, but it does appear they are a separate division of the Trans Am you work for. They do appear in a google search.
One thing I found interesting from browsing their website that among all the other things they do, MENTIONING that they run safe and legal never appear. I just thought it was different from what most all other companies state on their websites.
