    These are two entirely separate issues with two answers;
    1.Anti-Idling laws(States;Cal,NY,Mass etc..not all btw) well that is a state law,and if you have a newr engine your exempt,,I.E. "CLean Air Idle Trucks"(and in Ca if im correct in remembering they changed the exemption for animals,as in they dont count.I myself never had a problem with anti idling laws,i know they seem to be a pain but with a newr truck well you wont have that problem

    2.Company Idling "Policy": Well thats simple,if you dont agree,,,QUIT,i can almost understand your husband but from a person driving a daycab(local),sorry no compassion here:biggrin_25513:

    2A.If you have a problem with your owners and their Personal spending habits well thats their money and Your Owners took the liability of creating a company and a job for you,buy your own truck and put someone else in it to drive and maybe you might share their opinion on idling

    3.OOIDA so you want OOIDA to try to make your company let you idle:biggrin_25523:,,why dont you try calling them with that and share the convo with the rest of us,as for OOIDA and States laws well they have tried and all efforts are FUTILE,simple fix to a states idle laws,,dont frequent them,or pass thru them

    try looking at this

    What many drivers don't realize is this: with fuel being more than 4 bucks a gallon, and the way that trucks consume about 1 gallon per fuel per hour average when idling really adds up in the end. So the careless driver that idles in 60 degree weather for ten hours or more straight has just wasted 10 gallons of fuel, and over $40 dollars. But of course it's natural for drivers not to have a caring attitude since they're not the ones paying for fuel. My first company Werner was well known for firing drivers for over-idling past the set percentage.

    I mean, none of this is rocket science! If you're not paying for the fuel, then have some respect for the companies that do pay for fuel and just don't over-idle!

    When I was driving, I'd idle in the extreme heat and cold, of course, but never between 20-55 degrees. The thing that always disturbed me while trying to sleep with windows open was the noise from the truckstop... so unless it was 65 or below INSIDE, I'd idle. I've had three throat surgeries, and have to have a cool room or some air flow.

    my last truck--as the battries got older i would have to idle to use the microwave---i am sure the mic is pretty hard on the batteries--
    other than that tho--i think maybe 5 times in the winter-- was below - 40
    and summer a bit more--probabely 25 times --i have a small fan--doesnt do much but blow the farts away--but crack the windows in the sleeper and it is pretty good---but then again at the time i was running a lot of canada--so summer isnt to bad

    Sometime I'll idle it when I run the microwave but if it's just for 2 or 3 minutes I don't...Never had a problem.

    Ya know I get the whole deal about drivers that never shut a truck off...I can see some rules to regulate the "dumass" factor. Thats not even the point. 110 degrees is outrageous. When you live in your truck, you need to be comfortable in order to REST. That's the point here. Doesn't make one a wimp. Makes you a human being, something alot of these "higher ups" just don't get anymore.

    I agree! How many times do you see a truck idling for the half hour or so it takes to fuel? Then the guy goes in the truckstop for lunch and a shower, truck idling the whole time,maybe an hour or more.
    We've had people back inside our plant, to load or unload, and want to leave the truck idling. INSIDE THE BUILDING! You tell them they need to shut the truck off, and they give you a funny look, like it's a concept they're not familiar with. "Shut the truck off"? Yeah, you know , turn the key to the left.....

    It's hard to complain about it when it hasn't been invented yet. But, I guarantee you they were thinking about it or it wouldn't of been invented.
    It's one thing to tough it out a couple nights. But when you live in that truck 24/7 and work long hours, you have a right to be comfortable. I don't care what any crackerhead says. You don't see them turning the AC off in the terminals. Yep fuel is what $4 now? Good time to buy an APU. Keep up with technology and stop trying to live in the past. This is the way it use to be....yeah and when the old farts were driving double sticks, there was an older fart with a pack of mules and a wagon saying the same thing. Everything falls on the driver. Well not this time. Get over it! :)
