Trucker shot and killed in Portsmouth

A Chesapeake man was shot and killed in Portsmouth early Tuesday.
Rev. Larry Coleman of Churchland Baptist Church says Wayne Fehrm was shot and killed just before starting a trip in his 18-wheeler.
The 57-year-old Fehrm was closing and locking the gate to a warehouse he leased in the Ebenezer Park neighborhood when he was shot, Coleman says, who spoke to Fehrm's wife this morning.
"Sadly this person, whoever it was that shot him, if he had given him a 20 minutes or even a minute to talk to him, he might have developed the best friend of his life," said Rev. Coleman.
The family has not been told by police of any possible motive.
Fehrm was found dead at the corner of Brighton and Chestnut streets around 2:00 a.m, next to his rig.
"His wife, Debbie, has worried and said for years, 'I don't like you in the middle of the night being in that section of town,'" said Coleman. "Shootings and violence are not uncommon."
Rev. Coleman says Fehrm's wallet and cell phone were found on the passenger seat of his big rig.
"This was a man who loved God and consequently, his church. He was hard working, ran his own business, and loved his family, and was committed to all three as possible," said Coleman.
Fehrm, who was a deacon at the church and served as a youth minister, was the owner and operator of a short-haul trucking company.
He leaves behind three grown children and a handful of grandchildren.
Coleman says Fehrm was heading to Washington in hopes of being home by evening to celebrate his wife's birthday.

Aw, that is sad. I'm sure he is "Heaventown Bound" now and will rest in peace. He sounds like he was a good man. Truck On through the heavens, my friend!

Terrible Tragedy! It may not be stranger that caused this man life to be taken. People do awful things for money. The same thing happen in Fayette County Ga. They found a trucker dead behind Hartsfeild Jackson Airport. The initial thought was robbery. On 6/26/07 the truckers wife was arrested for having her husband murdered. The irony is, the person that actually committed the murder was a POLICE OFFICER! The wife and the cop were having an affair. The idiot cop, get this, used his service issue, 40 cal. Thats how they made the connection. I feel sorry for both of these men that lost their lives but most of the time its the ones we love that take it.

I hate to say it, but that doesn't surpise me at all...i've been through Norfolk, Newport News, and Portsmouth plenty of times and that's just something you come to expect from that part of the state...it was probably around 2 years back, that the area down there was considered the most dangerous city in America...I think it was 13 murders in a month if my memory doesn't fail me

but God bless that trucker and i'll be sure to pray for his family
