I am doing my research in preparation for a career as a driver. Part of this is going to truck stops and asking drivers for various companies what they think about who they drive for. How would you truckers recommend I do this without A) Interfering with your tight schedules B) Making you nervous ("why is this guy talking to me--is he a drug dealer?").
Any advice is much appreciated.

How do I approach drivers at truck stops?

Just look for the guys standing around smoking cigarettes outside the door. That's all they do is usually talk. Be ready for plenty of BS though.
-
I don't think you'll have any problems, just walk up to them and ask if they have a minute to talk to you, I think you'll find most accommodating...
-
You got plenty of money, truckdrivers like two things, well three , one is cigerattes, 2 is coffee, and three is plenty bs too overfull the manure spreader with, so if want too do reserch a truckdriver lifestyle , buy him all three , well not 3 hes got plenty of that and keep the other two coming ,then go home and do your reserch

Ask..hey driver, you need some company?
Kidding, what dirtybob said. -
if the driver is walking really fast dont stop him. just check around your local fuel and fill for the guys standing around just waiting to spew bs at the drop of any question

There's all types out there. Look for one that'll greet you or looks halfway human. You'll know the ones that have a corn cob stuck....
I would talk with them one on one. More than one and it'll turn into a debate. Whatever you do, don't mention religion or politics. -
Right on the religion and politics, and TAKE FOR GRANTED that at least 90% you'll hear is negative info from hearsay...ones who have a buddy, who something radical happened to..
Throw out 99% of the negative, unless the same company keeps coming up. -
Write down "wanna talk" on toilet paper and send it under the stall! Should do the trick!Last edited: Apr 14, 2011
