Trying to find a decent generator that isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg. Ran across this one. For $1995 doesn't sound too bad. It's air cooled, not water cooled. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this model or what your thoughts would be on it? Thanks!

Hard to tell for sure in the vids but it sounds about as loud as one of them old SouthBend welders. :) But, being the peculiar creatures that we truckists are...it's odd how one will gestate an affection for the old, huge, ugly, ungainly, and impractical. Take me, for example...

The poster of these vids...optigenerators...claims this about the second vid: This is a demo for a truck APU that has been in service for more than 19 months and 1500 hours. The customer came back for routine maintenance. He is very satisfied with our unit.

Thanks for the videos, I had watched one on their site but couldnt get the second one to play. I was really hoping that someone on here has actually used one of these and could give some real world pros and cons.

If size is the only downfall, it's not a problem for us.
I was just curious about the fact that it's air cooled instead of water cooled.

Our goal is to have a generator to provide power for an apt size fridge, a tv, and run a rooftop air in the summer or a portable heater in the winter. I just can't see paying out $9000 for an apu to do this.

We are in a straight truck and we expedite, so there is a lot of sitting in our job. We just bought our own truck, but the truck we have been in had a proheat apu. We were not impressed with it. Very expensive to keep maintained. The air conditioning function is a terrible design. It's great if you want to sit up front in the cab instead of in the sleeper because that's where all the air goes. We will only go with a rooftop air in our new (to us) truck.

If anyone has any other cost saving ideas for what we need, I would really appreciate any input. :biggrin_2559:

Not familiar but would want to know if you can control the operation from the cab or do you have to get out to start and stop it.

Sounds like who ever installed the Proheat didn't know what they where doing. I have a Carrier and would say I have the opposite issue. If I am sitting in driver seat with it running it takes a while to get the front cool. And the air outlet in the bunk blows hard enough on the low setting that no matter how I turned the vent it would move papers or be blowwing right on me. Made an elbow to put on the end to direct the air back against a wall.

I am solo and lazy (run less than 2,000 a week) so sit a lot. But if I was a team or run 3,500 mile a week regularly I would have had a hard time justifing the cost in the begining.
