To me, "BEST" is a title that can be held by only one company, but I can see why companies would claim their training is "best". This refers to the contents of the training, as in the "best training of all the possible training courses available". At least this is what I hope they mean, or all of them have started going down liar's row with you and you've not even gotten a CDL yet.
Training in the Bronx? Wow. I remember the Bronx vividly from my run to Hunt's Point. I can't believe rookies are training in the Bronx, of all places. I guess you'll get the best training there, as if you get only "better" training, you'll surely have an accident while being trained.
Here are the three companies you should go with: Crete, Crete, or Crete. I'd add Crete to my list, and probably even Crete. These are the ONLY outfits I'd go with, and I'd definitely make it work at whichever one of these I went with. I'd also keep my nose clean, as none of these five will put up with any BS from a driver who isn't careful.

Hello Tip:
Your avatar is straight to the point. I like it a lot! Yes I will listen and go with Crete. I have done a lot of reading on them so far and have found them to be the most reliable company out there. Also I do understand that no one company out there will be perfect but it is what the company can do for its workers, as far as training, runs, miles, benefits, pay et. This is the same as the Board of Education is concerned too. The BOE has its good points and bad points. The schools that are part of it have good and bad bosses. Some of them have bad reps but they are excellent administrators that can keep a tight ship. Personally, I would rather have a boss that never smiles but keeps a tight ship and makes sure that the teachers do what they are supposed to do. In other words making no room for "BS."
As far as I know, principals who often smiled a lot were the ones that you had to watch out for. The smile itself was only a mask for what was really in store for you. Well, that is what I have experienced so far. I can't say that is what goes for the rest of the teachers who work for the board of dread. Besides the union is good for nothing as well. They are just as corrupt as any other racket out there.
Well sorry for ranting, I just want to share my opinions with you. So I have looked into Anderson trucking, Schwann and Conway (LTL) too. However, I will go with Crete. I will fill out my application tomorrow (that is if the school is too expensive and Crete does not recognize them.) I will have to ask Crete about them before I sign any paperwork and dish out my money. Personally, I would rather go with Crete's training first then work my tail off and start saving some money for some future plans. Again thank you, and I will keep you posted on what I end up doing. Have a nice evening.

Glad I could help. I think you'll be fine at CCC. It's all on YOUR shoulders there, as that company is as good as they come. I think Roehl is pretty good, too.
What I'm saying is if you have problems with the company you've chosen, it will be because of YOU. This is the way it should be with every company, but at some outfits, when a driver has a problem, it is squarely the company's fault.
Keep your nose clean and best of luck, man. See if you can get CCC's Lincoln training. They used to have a partnership deal with a Lincoln community college, but that may have ended.
Seeing you make a good decision and knowing that I helped in that decision makes coming here worth it. I come here because of this and because I love pissing off trucking companies that have burned me or my friends in the past. Swift won back when I worked for them, but as we approach the two-minute warning, I'm making a big comeback. Guys like you, John, are helping me win. I just kept you from making the big mistake of going with a crappy outfit like Swift, so we've both won. Nice.
And for you Swifty insiders: I bet you thought I'd forgotten all about your POS company. -
Me I would go with maverick. Crete is a good choice, but to me mav would be a better choice. -
Whats mavericks web site? What does crete start you off at? It says 1-2 exp like .40 a mile

Howdy,
I finally got the call from Maverick but I'm in the Houston area so I may have a bit of a wait for training. I plan to move to Fort Wayne, Indiana so that I can start quicker.
I have also been looking into Crete and Watkins Shepard. Both seem to be great companies. I know flat bedding is more work but I'm thinking that is a good place to start and then if I become an O/O maybe do vans.
Anyway, I liked Maverick because of the equipment and the pay and safety record. I have also felt the the recruiters have been square in what they are offering. I guess time will tell.
I also like Kreilkamp but they only hire near I-80 and require 6mos experience so I will look at them after my first year.
Just my 2 cents worth

Hello:
Maverick is a good company as far as I have read about them. Driver satisfaction, training, equipment, home time, runs, miles, and company administration et. I heard all good things about them as well as other companies like Crete and ATS to name a few. It is really easy to find the Maverick website. Since I can't place the website here due to the forum rules, I will help you.
Just using your computer search engine, type in Maverick trucking, and you will get about 5-6 results. The first site may give you problems entering, while the second site will put you where you need to be. There you will find everything about the company and their recruiting brochure and online application. The application is the easiest one that I have done as of yet. The one for Crete requires much more documentation that basically protects the legal rights of the applicant and the employer. They don't want to get into a "he said, she said" scenario that often takes place in other companies. Remember, anything you fill out make a copy of, so that no one can pull a fast one on you later on.
Ok, now for my news. As far as Crete is concerned they don't have their own training. However, they did point me towards schools that offer training. There is one near my house that offers over 305 hours in training, which lasts 8 weeks, and costs a lot of money. In my case, I am kind of pressed for time to get a job, so I don't know if I can stay in training for such a long period of time. I will see if I can get a grant or a student loan to help me pay for my training. I can easily put down half and see where I can go from there. However, Maverick offers company paid training and from what I understand they really work you and make sure you that you are properly trained before you go out on the open road.
Now I know there is room for mistakes in this scenario but if I can go with Crete, I know I am guaranteed a trainer for 8 weeks after I have recieved my initial training, which guarantees my safety on the road. On the other hand, if I can't go the training route I can go the Maverick route since they have such a good reputation. Besides, I hear flat bed specialized trucking can lead to a wide range of driving opportunities from the types of loads and the amount of experience that I can recieve. I hope this helps you. Have a nice weekend.

Well my two cents is from the companies you posted you were interested in Crete, Maverick and Roehl are the top 3. Personally my husband and I have no experience with Crete or Maverick although from the information I have read in the forum I see no real negative things about them. Roehl we do have personal experience in. I think I posted to you that I checked for you and was told Bronx is not in their hiring area. That being said, we have had no major problems with them. Any issue that had come up had been addressed and taken care of. I am in one day heading up to Marshfield for school. I will tell you my experiences as they go. My husband has been driving with them and is a certified trainer with them. We are going team when I am done. Good luck with Crete. I think you will be happy with them.
