Read an amazing article from the San Diego Examiner newspaper a couple days back. PLEASE, someone slap me up side the head so I might understand.

It has been announced, the Arizona EPA has begun a program of retrofitting MEXICAN trucks with the equipment needed to become smog compliant. The article stated, the US government shall dole out upwards of $1600 per truck, oh yea, and this program has already begun.

Further, the paper estimated the possibility of 40k more MEXICAN drivers entering into the United States, taking away jobs that we have depended on to feed our families.

    What are we thinking?

Under the BS government rules, money budgeted or received must be spent or the amount of budget/grants in the next fiscal year is reduced proportionately. This is what Arizona chose to do with it's Federal grant money. Stupid but business as usual.

40,000 truckers coming in to take our jobs? Unfounded BS put out there by those opposing cross border trucking.

Just doesn't sound like something az. would do without some armtwisting. Why not put the money into low interest loans for apu units for az. truckers?

Politics and buddy buddy politics. Money's available. Someone in the Az EPA's got a buddy who can benefit. 2+2=16 as in $1600 for a "catalytic converter"? 37 years in the business and I was never aware trucks had them.

Sounds to me like trucks are getting new mufflers and the labor, $1200 per truck is greasing someones pocket.

Typical liberal "nothing to see here" mentality.

I highly doubt a company is going to use an american truck driver to pull a load at a pay of 35-40 cents per mile when a mexican will drive across the country for 10 cents. Have you seen the pay level in that country? You should know, you're from there.

You're probably right if you subscribe to the BS of OOIDA of Mexican drivers working for $.10 cpm.

Some of you are amazing thinking that at a maximum, 100 Mexican trucks will put 4.5 million US drivers out of business and as one moron who called Bubba Bo last weekend put it, "an end to America as we know it"! Jesus H. Christ with a popsicle stick stuck in his butt! Unbelievable.

Strange you feel the need to hang a label on someone you know absolutely nothing about!

True, 100 Mexican truck drivers will have little affect on an entire industry. Not the point what so ever.

My original post was aimed more at the fact, our government seems hell bent on spreading the wealth to those who should not be here anyway.

I am personally aware of many fellow American, owner/operators, who through no fault of their own, have been placed out of service because the truck they drive is DOT Non-Compliant. How about we use US taxpayer money to assist American drivers instead of foreigners.

Never before in my existance have I felt the uncomfortable emotions currently being experienced. I see a driver, who may be of Hispanic decent and I get pissed. I see those day workers, huddled up around the Home Depot, waiting to exploit our system and I get angry.

This is freaking AMERICA. We are supposed to watch each others back, not turn away and ignore each other.

Arizona made a gallant effort to make changes in policy. The freaks in Washington decided it was not in the best intrests of Corporate America to keep foreign nationals out of our nation.

I am keeping score. My future votes will go to the politicians who support America, not take up the 6 o-clock position of Mexico and their dirty dealing corrupt government.:smt067

Umm, you know so little to say so much. I would have to disagree with you on the "through no fault of their own" comment.

An owner operator is put out of service for a "non compliant" truck? Then whose fault is that? Certainly not the inspector doing his job. Who is responsible for that truck? The company the O/O is leased on to?

The hypocrisy is astounding. First you criticize the government for doing one thing and you turn around and criticize them for not doing something else.

Those Mexican drayage trucks, 55 or so of them, didn't come over here asking for help or demanding anything. Someone in Arizona had some grant money, perhaps had a friend who would benefit from it and came up with this hair brained scheme. Those Mexican drayage trucks didn't need nor request shiny new mufflers and stacks. They were legal just as they were.

Sounds like a personal issue if it pisses you off to see a brown face. You'd do well in Arizona or perhaps now, in Alabama, where the new Jim Crow era is reestablishing itself.

A Hispanic driver ain't no different from you my friend, nor I. He wants to get out, get the job done and get home safely to his family at night like the rest of us.

And those you see around Home Depots, exploiting the system? Keep it real! At least those guys want to do an honest days work for what they hope is an honest wage. Contrast that to the lazy Americans sitting on their butts collecting unemployment, food stamps and whatever other gimmes they can come up with.

Our government, in their largesse, has made it more beneficial for many Americans to do that than to get off their butts and find a job. The supposed "illegals"? They can't get any of those bennies, legally!
