OK, this is mama mia writing as my hubby. I can never remember my password, and do everything from my phone. Anyway, you have unleased the accountant in me. Here are some figures.

I can tell you from what I remember, the overmileage was MUCH worse with Lone Mountain. When the head was being replaced, we looked into just getting a new truck from them. I will tell you they are a subprime company, which are the rates you are going to get. Granted this is comparing our truck (2010 386) to a new (2011) 386. Also, this is not taking into account you would be able to get the PrePass from Central, I was just throwing that in the mix. I can also tell you, when I looked into insurance for the two of us the rates were really rather competitive with Central.

So, those are the figures. Now, as shown, the truck itself would be less with Central, however then you are leasing it from them and you have to buy it out at the end. If you get the truck from a subprime company, then it is yours. The payment history goes on your credit report. The truck can also go with you if you choose to leave the company.

Now, as to address the whole starve you out issue, I can tell you there is a driver named Mike, who as of about 6 months ago was still with the company. He got a white T2000 new from Central. I will tell you his story as he told us. He got the truck. He ran as a trainer. He met a guy whom he trusted, they decided to run team. Along the way they decided they would each like to spend time at home on occasion, so the 2 seat (co-driver) was approved to train as well. They would take turns rotating, one train, then the other, then they would team drive, etc. The truck never stopped, there was always steady income, and they had it worked out as to how it would be split. At the end of the lease, the truck had almost 700k on it. They were going to charge him $24k to paint and prep it for auction. He got a quote from Central, then he got 2 outside quotes as to the trade and used retail value of the truck would be. They negotiated. He got a 2nd mortgage and paid for the truck. When we last saw him, he was once again training, and not teaming with the gentleman we first met. The truck had over 1,000,000 miles on it, but was his.

Now, I can also tell you we talked to O/O about what would happen at the end of the lease, as we can't just pull $40k out of you know where. They assured as that we could get funding through their bank which would keep the payments at about the same as our current payment, and would be paid off in an additional 2 years. Now, at JCT, not sure on the payments, but you get a used truck, and pay on it 5 years, then buy it for $1. The difference isn't that great other than the new vs. used issue.

Since then, we have talked to at least two other drivers who ended their lease and went to purchase as described, and then decided to get another. One chose to get another through Central, and I don't know what happened to their original truck. The other chose to use the whole ordeal as an opportunity to improve their situation and was able to get a truck of their very own without any of Central's assistance. Both were trainers. Our second trainer is going to be a habitual lessor of Central's, and if that works for him that is fine. Never have any of them complained their miles dried up. All have said as I do believe I have said before, this truck is your business. If you do not have a mind for business, and can't fight for it, then you don't need to be in it. It would not be in Central's best interest to make things horrible for you, as especially with experience you can go somewhere else. As I know I have said, they are in the business to train drivers and lease trucks. They will do what they can to make money in those forms. If you are going negative, it is in their best interest to cut you loose so someone else can make money on their truck. If you are not a good performer, ditto. I cannot speak from personal experience as to what happens at the end of the lease, and I know that everyone who has left did so for their own reasons. We all make choices, even if it is to lease a truck and then go on a decaying fleet and not fight to keep the truck. Like I have said we fought hard to be able to run, and now we run and fight the truck. We have taken very good care of the truck, and like I also said sunk about $5k in chrome outside and in on it. We want to run. We want to haul freight. I will tell you I chewed and chewed and chewed to be able to get approval to lease a truck on to Central that was not purchased from Central. Others have done so as well. It is not an easy task to accomplish, and is almost another full-time job. We are still trying to discern what is our best option. As previously stated, we like our DM. We run Dole dedicated, and love it. From what I understand we are definitely among the teams with least tenure on the fleet, so we do everything we can to show we are supposed to run on the fleet, and as I said, have come close to the top ten since being moved to the fleet. We will haul freight, whether it is for Central, or for another company. We will own our own truck, whether it is leased onto Central or another company. Our goal is to own a condo and not run as hard, but for now we have a house, cars, and kids in college, all of which we hardly ever see trying to make sure we can keep those things. If it means we never see each other, even with being in the same truck, we will do it. I think I may have said it before we left for school, we have a dream, and no matter what we will do what we must to acheive it.

Now, I will step off my soapbox, and return the forum to its usual conversation.

I guess the figures didn't do much better with spaces. I tried. If anyone has questions, holler, and if I stepped on anyone's toes or hurt any feelings I am sorry. I just had to put figures down to be evaluated.

Lol I'm not going to bash your post, BUT it is a totally different ball game running teams for Central, the only way you can do OK is to run teams or train and I'm talking as a lease op not a company driver.

The ones who are thinking they are doing great making 1k a week are dreaming you can make that as a company driver!

The balloon payment at Lone Mountain only applies to Brand new trucks, doesn't it???????
