Yeah I pushed it back again. I'm trying really hard to get something local. If I can I'll end up hauling fruits and veggies through the harvest season, June thru October. It'll be hard work, like 12-14 hours a day and 6-7 days a week but the pay is really good. So hopefully I hear from one of them soon. If not though that's ok with me, I'll still be headed to watkins. I'll be happy to be working anywhere at this point. I just feel like if I don't at least try to get something local I'm not looking at all my options, you know?

 

Well just a little update... It turns out that Watkins Shepard isn't interested in hiring me. I guess putting it off to get together everything I'd need on road and to see if I could find something locally has them thinking I'm not interested in going OTR. So, they let me know today that they won't be holding an orientation slot for me anymore and wished me good luck in finding a local gig. Oh well, no hard feelings on my side. I've got a lot of applications in locally, putting some more in in the next few weeks and I'm also applying to some more OTR companies so I'm sure everything will work out in the end.

On a positive note I've got an interview tomorrow morning with a company out of Los Banos called Morning Star. Wish me luck!! They haul tomatoes June thru October. It's a decent job, pays pretty well, I'll probably be working nights(no problem with that), and like I said before its long hours. I'd be hauling doubles from the field to the processing plant. Plus after I get laid off I'll have a little experience that might help me get a year round gig with the gravel/rock haulers here in town.

 

Thanks for the info! I thought that Panella was just one of the seasonal ag haulers. Here is the one I was going to apply to in a couple weeks when they start gearing up for harvest season, http://www.panellatrucking.com/ It looks like B. Panella Drayage is a different company? It looks like one is in Modesto/Stockton and the one you recommended is in Ceres so I'll go check them out and put in an application a.s.a.p. Again, THANKS for the info! :smt023
