seattle local driver thinking of going OTR

    HI,

    I drive local in the seattle area. I make about 34K a year. Looking to mabe move to a dedicated run out 4 to 5 days. Realisticly, can I make more $ driving OTR, or am I better off staying local? Never driven OTR, Will a company make me go through a refresher course, and If so what do they pay on average for that training. Any idea's on company's?

    ,,some co.s are 'squeamish' about locals going OTR without having done it! They think they you will 'bail' because it is a different world (now OTR myself, but was daycab for 3 yrs). I would think tho that in the Seattle area you could find a co. running the I-5 corridor to CA that would hire you if relatively clean record (nothing major on DAC, if you have one?!)...ask around, have nothing to lose!     I figured as much. A company has alot invested with the equipment and frieght. I would even be willing to drive team with an experienced driver, too. That would prob make a conpany feel a little better. My wife is going to night school in the fall, so we won't see each other anyway. Figured I could drive my tail off during the week and hopefully make a little more green. Thanks for the reply

    Make sure you and your wife look at the BIG picture - going from local to OTR can bring on bigger changes at home. Good Luck!

    a quick way to look at some companies is get some of those little truck advertisement books at the truck stop.they're free and have a lot of company ads along with their hiring areas.I saw one the other day looking for OTR drivers in WA and OR I can't remember who though.The books are usuallly just inside the door or right outside in a newspaper llike box.books are about 6x8 inches.just a thought.Welll you've seen em you probably fuel your daycab at a truck stop sometimes.anyhow good luck
