I am thinking about going into trucking for the money and I have wanted to get my "A" for a long time. What is the better way to do it, go through company sponsored training or go to a local school first? If I did go through a company sponsored training is there any that will do it local or are they all OTR for at least a year? Being a family oriented man I would like to stay close to home or be home every weekend.

I would say your best bet would be maverick for getting home on the weekends. Mcelroy does also, but you need a school or recent OTR with them.

Family man at 24? Odd but ok. There are thousands of posts just like yours, please look around, read. Now my advice? As I am getting out of a local job here next weekend, thank god, I will say this if I ever have to hire a driver I would much rather hire an OTR than a local driver. The locals seem to have the worst attitude, and do as little as possible.
