I'm not the one telling people on a newbie forum that it's a good idea to carry a gun in a company CMV.
When that truck goes in for a PM and a sidearm is discovered during a random search, the driver will be fired on the spot.
And no other (reputable) company will hire that driver.
I'm not against firearms at all, but I just don't think it's a good idea to pack one in a company truck.
If you're an O/O and you own the truck, it might be OK.

I would never recommend concealed carry while driving a CMV. I think an AR-15 is more practical.
Donnerpasser and Pipe Mike Thank this. -
If only...
In the real world.
When you sign on with a company, you agree to abide by the rule of employment. Whether you like them or not.
If you decide that you can't live without your pistola, find a company that will let you have it.
Otherwise, leave it at home. -
I can only assume you are being facetious.U4EA Thanks this.

Talked to this guy many years ago, He was about 60years young, and he said he carries a shotgun, Says he cant see worth a darn.
-
Who ever would be soo irresponsible to leave a firearm in a vehicle while it is not in their possesion should be.....well......... fired will do. I don't know anyone that carries firearms that would do such a thing.
Tell me more about these random searches. Is that by the company or DOT? Do they frisk you? I thought the DOT could only go inside the cab to look at things that are on the inspection checklist, ie sleeper berth cargo net, fire extingisher, etc? Anything beyond that would require a search warrant. -
Here is the link: I did make a mistake in saying that this man is getting out of prison and it was in NJ.
He just started his sentence for 7 years for having locked and unloaded handguns in his car trunk, when he was searched and arrested in 2009.

Yeah, I remember reading about that guy. That was totally a case of an anti-gun judge and prosecutor with a God-complex. Glad Gov. Christie commuted his sentence. Laws like these need to be abolished as they serve no reasonable purpose except to make criminals of the law-abiding.

Seems to defeat the purpose really, I'm from Canada and drive in the U.S. and appreciate the fact some drivers have guns, I presume charlie isn't checking plates and may tend to shy away from trucks not knowing who has some defense and who has none, If I was a Texan I'd have a fully loaded magnum dangling from my dash mounted bobble head, 10-4.
This Canuck supports no conceal and carry and the bigger the better.
I was broken into one night though am glad I did not have a gun as the perp. was just a lot lizard looking for some loose change, I probably would have waisted her before realizing that. Though with proper training I think in this biz. they're a good thing to have.Last edited: May 1, 2011

also most companies (shiiper/cosignee) do not allow firearms and in some cases knives on their property. this isn't 20 yrs ago when most of us carried a hand gun and even a shotgun with oo buck in our trucks. i would read your fmscr real close b/c ( and i may be wrong here) i believe it states that firearms are not allowed in a commercial vehicle now. also there are laws about transporting firearms across state lines to consider. takes it out of dot and state law enforcement and places charges into the hands of the atf
