I would like to fight a ticket I recieved in Tennessee when I was 2 1/2 weeks into my truck driver training. I searched the internet and read posts from this site. I spoke with someone today from the firm (Driver's Legal Plan) to settle a 69 in a 55 in the state of Tennessee. After metioning which court she advised me that the firm has been there around 427 times and could not settle on 16 tickets. Since I'm not a member and doing the after the fact they will charge me $395.00 to fight it. I could of been a member # 13.50 per month and it would of cost 100.00. She said she could either wipe it clean or move it down to a non-moving violation. I have never had a ticket, accident, DUI, felony, ect...my record is clean.
I'm gambling if I choose I know, BUT is it worth the gamble ?

I'd try Interstate Truckers LTD. There are other avenues but that one is well known. They advertise in many of the venues we drivers would see, the small employment mags, "The Trucker"and so on. You should get more ideas from this thread as well. Good Luck
Normally, you contact the court or the lawyer does and they will tell you when the case will be heard, the first date is to set up the appearance.
The other way is the lawyer negotiates for you. and no appearance is needed, but that doesn't work everywhere. -
Just look in the area for a lawyer that does tickets.Do not waste your time with a PPL!
Now OOIDA can help but you might need to join them and their "dues" are about $45 a year. They have lawyers and lists of lawyers nation wide, they can help you with anything trucking and you do not have to be a owner to be a memer.
Me, I just ask the clerk of the court for a lawyers name they know and go from there. Or you can hit the internet and search that way. But while you have the clerk on the line ask what the fine will be if you send it in. It is usually the same as what the judge will stick you with but never pay a ticket! Pay a lawyer or go fight it yourself!
The lawyer when you call will give you his rates and inform you that the check you will send before court will include the fine and his fees and any other costs which are called court costs!
Do not expect a lawyer to be cheap. If so look for another one and get one with a few years experience THEN check him out as to his win loss rate!
Have fun and good luck and save some money and slow down! LOL
As to a PPL.
Don't! If you never get another ticket then that is money wasted! You can send it to me! Put aside $500 in a nice safe savings account and add to it every month and when you quit driving you'll have a nice fall back cash stash! OR of you put back what you would pay a PPL it's the same thing! I've heard drivers on the phone yelling at their high dollar PPL when they tell him to find a lawyer in BFE because they don't have one listed there! Big help they were!mauidave22 Thanks this. -
Always fight a ticket. I got a serious violation in cincinnati and called that ad that states,"1 800 got ticket." Or something like that.
Cost me a bunch but was reduced to a non moving violation. Worth a 1000 bucks to anyone if you ask me.
I once drove over 200 miles to ask a judge to reduce the mph on a ticket so it wouldn't be a serious violation and he did. Bless him.
Keep that record clean.mauidave22 Thanks this. -

Got one for 70 in a 55 in east Texas. I called several lawyers including one of the legal plans. Was gonna cost between $600 and $850 to fight. I called the court clerk and asked what my options were. She gave me the number for the City Attorney. He gave me something very similar to deferred adjudication but called it something else. I was on 90 days probation and now the ticket is gone. I think it cost me around $300. Worth a try.
