A new kind of 'road rage' going on lately! Everybody has a cell phone, and calling long distance is nothing these days, so many disgruntled 4-whlrs are calling the phone numbers on trlrs and either: 'embellishing incidents' (like following too close, merging poorly 'interaction,' ect. or flat out-&-out lying to get drvrs in trouble. They dont have to give real name/ph. number or go to court, just call in and rag!! It's happening alot to big carriers--just ask your Safety dept!!
Brickwall Thanks this. -
I said awhile back that if squid was just a mouthy jerk, I would apologize - well here it is "I'm Sorry"

Some companies dropped the 800 # a while back. Figured if someone called long distance it would be legit, but you are right cell phones are everywhere. Drivers even call in on drivers for spite anymore.
-
It is a shame it is so difficult to deal with common sense anymore. Yes, companies should remove the 800 numbers. Drivers should cover them up with duct tape. Of course that could lead to getting fired, but then that's the catch 22, right?
All the years I was out there, I never had a problem with a call in. With all the road rage today, it makes me wonder how safe I would be out there from this (sensored).

The worst part of it is that our company trailers have the 800 number in HUGE lettering, so you can read it from even a few truck lengths away. The trailer number is about the size too. Sux.

I like my cell phone it keeps me awake at nite

I am afraid just being a good driver won't be enough in the future and Cell phones will be a bigger distraction when drivers need to be paying attention. If the traffic continues to get worse, it will make the job a whole lot harder.

To the gentleman who originated this post.
Several states that we haul oversized loads in will mandate that we use the center lanes in metro areas and drive 55 or 45 mph. The mandates will be listed right on the permits faxed to us by the state. We are just trying to do our job legally and safely. I have to admit that I have very little concern that I may delay your commute a couple of minutes. Sorry.
Brickwall and Diamondeez Thank this. -
I just run in the middle to avoid the lady merging onto the freeway while putting on makeup, or the guy reading the stocks in the paper while having coffee and a donut doing the same. Its easier and you get hit by morons less.
Brickwall Thanks this.
