Note what he stated he'd be pulling as far as weight went. 3.36's with a Cat would work fine, especially with it set to 1850 torque through a 13 or 18.

The worst part about 3.36 would be backing up. Reverse would be fast. I have read about Bruce at PP building trucks with very fast gears with the intent of running a 18 spd in direct (16th gear). Imagin how hard it would be to back that up into a tight uphill dock.
-
He's pulling RGN, though... Not too often he's going to have to hit a dock, uphill, tight or otherwise
-
I was refering to the trucks PP are building and the folks that are buying them. 3.36s would not be that bad anyway.

I pull an rgn almost every day with 3.36's and I don't have any problems at all I mostly pull a triple grossing around 112 k but sometimes I get all my wheels out and pull a 10 axle grossing upwards of 200 k and while it is a grunt to get it started once it's rolling they do fine. Now I don't get great fuel mileage I feel good if I get 5 out of that cat but I don't think 4.5 is too bad with the weight that I pull
-
I also have 3.36 and run an rgn and flat and have no issues. Backing up is not a problem not to fast at all. I have a 550 twin turbo with an 18spd and i get between 5.8 and 6.3 mpg and gross between 78k and 85k all day long. JMO but pulling an rgn all the time with an aero truck will not make a diffrence on fuel milege.

Thanks for all the info.
Idle time is similar between the trucks, and I am also looking at those axillary power units, any recommendations on those, I've heard pretty good things about the TriPac, Rig Master and Diamond Power?
Thanks for the Gear advice, I've always preferred a higher gear ratio, however, I have never seen the different torque curves between different cummins and CAT motors.
Also, Is anyone running any after market software or have any advice for modifying factory equipment such as injectors, timing, turbo, emissions stuff, etc to help increase mileage?Last edited: May 2, 2011

I think Rigmaster is out of business. Heard good and bad about them. TriPac is good. Not so sure about Diamond pPower.
