Now that's pretty low tech. Fire.
Get an inverter and visit Walmart. I have a microwave, electric skillet and a crockpot. Real food isn't ramen noodles.

one can live on ramen noodles ( in a pinch) lmaooo. but one can do real well on rib eye steaks from wally world (or any market) too. nothing beats a good steak cooked outside or inside for that matter.
ha ha am guessing you'd be done for if you lost your microwave -

Did stew in the crockpot the other night - still have some in the freezer I'll reheat that in the microwave. Got chicken for a chicken curry in the fridge. Did steak and eggs in the electric skillet the other morning after unloading. I carried a charcoal grill around a couple of years ago... to be honest, you can do a very good job on a pan fried steak in less time, and cook some veggies along with it at the same time.
Enjoy your ramyen. Yuk!foresaken Thanks this. -
I cook in the truck when I am able to get to a Walmart to purchase some small steaks and fresh brocolli. I use a small propane burner, costs me about $25.00 at Walmart, and a few more bucks for the propane tank. DO NOT USE WHILE IN MOTION!!!! Shouldn't have to tell anyone that, but who knows...some people aren't too bright...lol! I put it in front of me on the floor in front of the bunk. I have everything already within reach and prepared. I put down some newspaper or paper towels on the floor to catch any splatters. First, some olive oil and a pat of butter in the big, deep dish frying pan, and in go the steaks. Take the steaks out, and add a bit more oil and add the brocolli and sizzle up until 'al dente'. Remove the brocolli, and add about a cup of water. Bring to a near boil. Now pour that hot water over a packet of instant mashed potatoes that you've already put in a sealable container. Now, grab a few paper towels, and the frying pan will easily wipe clean because the hot water has loosened up and removed any tasty steak and brocolli bits that are now in your instant mashed potatoes, adding a lot of extra flavor.
Another thing that I like to use is the little "oven to go" by Road Pro. Got it on sale at the Pilot for $19.99. I buy the biggest potatoes I can find at Walmart. One big one will just about fill up that little oven. Takes about 2 1/2-3 hours and you'll have a nice potato, pour some canned chili, or chicken chipoltle chili over it, and voila...a healthy and filling meal. I also make Tuna Helper in my oven to go, or I buy seasoned, unbreaded chicken wings (Tyson, Family Pride) and they only take about 20 minutes to heat in the oven. You can use the oven while driving, it plugs into the cigarette lighter. The propane burner takes more caution, and crack open the windows....if what you are cooking gets too smoky, open the window(s) more. Just use caution and common sense with the propane burner, and again, you must be totally parked, sitting still in which to use that thing. I saw a table top model at a TA the other day...I would like to get that, it is more stable, but can't afford it yet. Try to avoid cooking anything that would be too messy, or splatters. Buy some containers to put leftover food and put in your cooler for leftovers. -
As for cold cuts, I 'discovered' Turkey Pastrami at Walmart. It is only $3.49 a pound, and absolutely delicious! It costs less than cheese or bologna! lol! My company's trucks do not have power inverters, so I am forced to keep everything in a soft pack 12 volt cooler. I buy only what will "keep" for about three days, after that, the stuff goes bad. I carry canned evaporated milk in case my regular milk spoils. Lots of canned soups, like Sirloin Burger, I can tolerate them cold, out of the can. I also buy "souper soups"...just add boiling water to it. Peanut butter and jelly, I get mayo packets from the truck stops for tuna fish, and I buy canned chicken chunks. To me, trucking is like camping...just not as much fun! lol! And we are "survivalists".

in 5 mins can have a healthy meal cooked when you shut down for the night. get a road pro lunch box stove (online or at a ts) 30 - 35$ and can cook hot pockets or other fav frozen going down the road. buy the tray liners at wal mart though they are cheaper can buy the small ones for .94$ and the large ones for 2$ compared to 3.99$ at a ts. they heat soup up real well and thanx to this thread works for corn bread also. -
