Can anyone tell me how far back a typical background check goes? Will they go back say 20 years? I'm not looking to get hazmat or cross borders. Thanks

20 years and you would be safe you never know until you try, what is the worst they can say? Nothing, you just won't get a call back.

I know they do at least 10.
Summer of 05 when I leased onto Landstar they did a FBI back ground check on me. I asked them how far back it went. They replied....."what was the name of the town you lived in in 1995?" -
My wife and I both had our Haz-Mat background checks done in June. We were told it would take 3-6 weeks for the replies. Ours were back in a week to 10 days! The DOT was very surprised.

The haz background check is different than the one the FBI does.
I too had my hazmat authorization in 10 days. -
Does anyone know if there is a way for us to check our own backgrounds? I know US Search can do a background check for you for about $60 but will this show what they are looking at? or do they get into files that we cant see? reason I ask is that recently I tried applying for an airline position and altho I wasnt told I had something pop up in my background, but everyone elses came back and mine just didnt get returned, which to me is the same thing as just telling me that I cant work there. they said they would call me when I was clear but I just dont see what would be holding me back. I've never been in trouble, never arrested, never had dwi's or anything. I've had 3 tickets ever, one for speeding and 2 seatbelts. Just wish I could see what they see.
