Mark Twain put it quite eloquently when he said that there are "Lies, ###### lies, and statistics." As a professor I know that anyone can use numbers to your advantage anytime you need, however, it doesn't take a Ph.D to see the flaws in the above referenced research.

Try to get this done to airline pilots!
It would not make it to the study group!
What's so funny is pilots hold more lives at stake that a single truck driver but they have nowhere the regulations thrown at them because some stupid groups filled with idiots like MAD, CATT or CRASH and the gooberment group FMCSA who listen to these morons!
I truly hope you push this and write to them about this flaw and see what the response is! This will be interesting!Injun Thanks this. -
Although sometimes attributed to Mark Twain because it appears in his posthumously-published Autobiography (1924) this should more properly be ascribed to Disraeli, as indeed Twain took trouble to do: his exact words being, The remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: There are three kinds of lies: lies, ###### lies, and statistics. -
if it was all about safety the hos would look something like this...all drivers will take an 8 hour break in a 24 hour period. after 8 hours of driving the driver must take a minimum of an 1 hour break. see how easy it is. normal sleep time is 7-8 hours. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Have to count falling asleep and waking up time. And shower time in there somewhere, hopefully. Food time is nice. That's why they changed it to ten hours. The break is a good idea but they're going about it all wrong trying to regulate and mandate it. All they have to do is make the break extend the 14 as long as it's at least one hour. Wouldn't you take one if you didn't lose time for it? I would.
panhandlepat and Injun Thank this. -
It needs to be drive 14 off 10. With no restart needed.
-
They know if they crack down on sleep apnea, alot of drivers would be going home. So they created nappy time.
-
It needs to be paid by the hour. You think 14 hours at the wheel on a day to day basis is safe??!! NOT!! You must be very lucky to have it planned this tight. We all know hours (Unpaid) are lost throughout the day due to bad dispatch, equipment repairs, etc. Drivers are equal to migrant farm workers and with the current attitude, shall always be so!!

I recall hearing that one of the comments made to the FMCSA about the published HOS changes was by the authors of the WSU study. They pointed out that the FMCSA had totally misused and wrongly construed the intent of their research in the FMCSA's application of it to HOS.
Injun Thanks this.
