Last year I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was perscribed by my doctor to take Prilosec OTC (I didn't have insurance). At the same time, i went from a local gig to OTR driving. I wound up gaining 25lbs but I figured it was from the lack of movement and bad diet.

Well, just 2 months ago I quit taking the Omeprozol as my stomach had started giving me other problems. My current doctor told me to stop taking the meds. I quit taking the prilosec and in 2 months I lost 28lbs and my man-boobs (which is a side-effect too!) I got a ton of energy back as well. I know this was what caused it as I didn't change ANYTHING else, just stopped taking the pill once a day (I now use Pepcid complete when needed)

Once i told my father this, he too quit taking it Omeprozol (he had prescription form) and he lost 17lbs in 3 weeks!

Just a thought, you guys might want to try to switch to say Zantac as it has none of the above listed side-effects.

Thanks, SHC. I've been taking Prilosec OTC for a few years, as if I don't, EVERYTHING, including a glass of water, gives me severe heartburn. I've tried to lose weight over the past couple of years, and change in diet and exercise has not helped lose an ounce. The only time I lost any, was when I went on a basically starvation diet. Lost 15 pounds, but it quickly returned when I started eating properly again.
I may have to switch to some other OTC heartburn med.

I am in the same boat. I did a lot of research and have found Zantac 150mg is just as good, w/o the side effects. And if you get a script from your doc, you can get a 90 day supply at Wal-Mart pharmacy for $15 !
