Howard Transportation in Laurel. Flatbed, haul their own product. I've heard good things about them.
KLLM in Jackson. Used to have a good rep. I think it has slipped a bit. Not sure.
Miller (tankers?) in Jackson. -
Avoid Total out of Jackson and Olive Branch - owned by US Express, e-logs, and they can't dispatch solos for crap... used to be forced to either violate your 14 or wait until the next day after dropping... you'd sit all day waiting on a load, and now with e-logs, you just wait until the next day.
Teams hurt with them as well, have some friends I went through orientation with who are content to run 3500-4000 miles and no more... but that's also all they've ever gotten, except for one 5,000 mile week in 10 months. -
I was/am thinking about going to Total since they have a terminal down the road from my house. One of the teachers at my school said to stay away from KLLM at all costs since I don't want to lease a truck. I talked to a recruiter the other day at Total and he told me they don't do forced dispatch. Have you ever heard of Southern Refrigerated?

I don't know too much about Southern but I have a cousin that started out with KLLM as a student almost 3yrs ago, got some experience, leased the truck that he started out with, completed the lease, and is now an owner operator with them and he says he likes the company overall. I'm not encouraging the whole lease purchase deal but it seems to have worked out for him. Just keep in mind that what works out for one man, may or may not work out for you. I'm going with Howard Transportation. I'm leaving out tomorrow morning headed to Laurel, MS for orientation. From what I've been told by other drivers I know is that I made a good choice by starting out with them. Looks like I'm about to find out for myself.

Southern, as in SRT? They only pay .29 cpm and they have mandatory per diem... no way I'd recommend them.
Total doesn't have forced dispatch from your home terminal, but it makes no sense, other than an attractive recruiting line. Who wouldn't be serious enough in this business to go where you need to go? Their thought is that they won't force you out after time off... you can sit on your arse and not work... but that makes NO sense.
