We as drivers are tired and frustrated and have every right to be but the strikes and shut downs everyone keeps proposing will not work. There is no planning, no representation, and no UNITY.
These actions would only hurt the American public and send the wrong message. They would blame us for the ensuing economic disaster and that anger would burn for a long time. Remember, there are many people out there who struggle as much as we do to feed their families and they are not deserving of punishment.
If everyone logged legally and only worked their available hours it would slow things down tremendously but not stop them completely. The pain would be felt by the trucking companies, shippers and receivers as they struggled to adjust to the delays.
The hands of the industry would be tied because they wouldn't be able to force drivers to break the law in what would become a very public situation. There is much that would need to be planned around this before it ever started; such as media coverage and representation. The crucial part would be to have the issue with DAC reporting straightened out prior to this event so that those drivers who would lose their jobs (every war has casualties) could not be blacklisted.
No one person can stand alone in this; we already suffer together, isn't it about time we stood together.

A slight flaw in your plan.
Your not accounting that a majority of drivers are already running legal and a sudden switch by those that are not causes no ripple. -
Hardly anyone logs dock time correctly. The flaw with the plan is while the companies slowly suffer, so does the drivers paycheck. We all have bills and can only substain a short crisis.
truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
I never logged dock time correctly until I started in my current job. Only reason why I do now is because I could care less. I get paid by the hour so line 3 or 4 I'm getting paid. Don't have to worry about that OTR nightmare anymore.

I understand the concerns about the effects on driver's pay but when you compare that against what things will look like if things continue on their current course without any action against them; losing the little we get looks pretty good.

And when they don't care?
Seriously a team can log 10X10 and never quit. I do not set foot on docks, in fact I do far more D+H than anything else because that fits our customer's business model. -
Granted, my idea is not a "one size fits all" approach. I just get tired of everybody always saying how this or that idea won't work and thought that I would go the positive route and suggest something that might have a chance.
Uncle Pete Thanks this. -
OK here's a positive thought.
Don't work for less than you are willing toThat simple. No collective. No false brotherhood of misery. No fanciful deity.
You an individual make the decision of whether you like your job or not. -
ok i will park it tommorow and start my 2 day strike
