Cage, quick ? for you. Can you train in Flatbed or tanker instead of reefer. I see you started with flats then changed for personel reasons. I'm leaning toward tanker with flats as my second choice. Have a good day.

Flat and reefer I believe is whatever option you choose. Tanker is a bit specialized and I have heard you go to a 7-10 day boot camp type thing not 100% sure. Also make sure you live in an area that hires for tanker. Good luck
Also if you have followed my thread I changed to reefer due to personal/NO MILES on flatbed side I should have had all my miles a week ago. IMO you should go reefer to get the training miles done then switch.Last edited: May 7, 2011

Well I MADE IT HOME for my daughters play. We got into Portland Thursday morning at 8am my wife came down and picked me up. My trainer did 1 more run and parked in the Walmart 3 miles from my house. This morning I jumped back on the truck to finish just under 5k miles. We got a GREAT load from Yakima, WA to Jacksonville, FL there is 3300 miles down so back up to SpringMo and I should be done with training. I read my last post thanks for the congrats and sorry for the confusion still have a week or so to go. Anyway we are loaded to the max with apples.
I cannot say how impressed I am with Prime-Inc. I had an issue with communication with my recruiter but they came through for me so I could come through for my daughter.
Now to really strart thinking about Lease or Company. -
The reason they want you to start on the reefer side is that there are bunches of trainers on the reefer side, the miles usually come faster, and it really doesn't matter what kind of trailer you're pulling while you're learning how to control a trailer.
The benefit to you is that you sit around less waiting on a trainer, and you get to the point where you're useful and earning real money faster. -
Just crossed into Oklahoma, things are going well. This trainer is an alright guy. I was very anxious about going out with a trainer but it turned out ok. If you have 20k miles to do I would fully recommend this guy, he has a system and runs good. Our delivery was moved from Thursday to Wednesday which is fine we planned on getting there sometime on Tuesday so we could turn and burn. I myself after asking lots of questions talking with Success Leasing and many drivers I AM GOING to LEASE my truck, been getting settlement info for our loads and it is pretty good so that is my plan. I will check in tomorrow or Wednesday and hopefully have news about heading back to SpringMo. Be safe

Just make sure you can get decent fuel mileage. Its not about chasing miles on the lease side, but minimizing costs!
sazook Thanks this. -
Remember, the settlements you're seeing are from a trainer truck driving team miles. You will get different loads as a solo and your per mile cost will be higher due to running fewer miles. Based on a fact sheet sent to me by a recruiter,on a good week(2500 mi) you can expect a per mile cost somewhere around 1.00-1.15 depending on fuel mileage. Just sonething to be thinking about. Good luck.
