I worked for IRT in the '80's.
1/3 of your per mile rate was 'per diem', a rip off.
I liked the long runs. I didn't like way they treated you, although some of the office people were cool. I guess that old phart who was operations manager is long dead, forget his name, but his favorite thing to do was tell you 'do this or get your stuff out of the truck' (paraphrased) I also remember him telling me 'you don't have the right to refuse to do anything I tell you to do'.
Do they still force you to 'work the ships' 24 hours a day, for days at a time? Can't see how they can get away with that?
(Making you transfer OJ from a tanker at port to a juice plant, 24 hours a day without a break, for 3-7 days at a time. The only sleep you got was waiting in line at the port, or at the juice plant.)
I also remember them telling me a few times 'park your truck at 'X', we need you to get in truck XXXX with so and so and drive team for 6 weeks.' Not asking, telling, or at least trying to bully you into it.
I liked the runs, the money wasn't enough. They felt since you had the honor of living in florida, they didn't need to pay much. -
Definetly time to move on..................

They ask who wants to team for 90 day stretches at 42 cpm , they don't force you. And they ask who wants to work the ship , and guys line up for it. They don't force that either.
I guess those drivers want to run close to home or something. The boat has no appeal to me.
I do like the west coast board, but the avg miles are around 2600. Most drivers want more. I like getting to know same customers and routes.TankerYanker698 Thanks this. -
This new system they gave is a joke . The pay here stinks it's not this fm fault I talked to matt it hasn't helped any . On top of the .24 cent a mile .08 perdeam that is mine for the government that there using to pay us with . If I knew this b4 I got there I would of never came here . There using r money to pay us . The predeam a day is 54 $ out of 500 trucks there making 27000 $ a day off us in a month there getting from the government 108,000 of us fir driving these trucks . So in a year they made 1,296,000 $. Hmmm must b nice . We live out on the road away from are families 2 or 3 weeks . How do you feel about getting scammed on your money u make that is all ready yours . They get to take it for them selfs . At the end of the year . Kit to say the twic card if you got 1 come out of your pocket you get nothing extra 4 having it or pass port . Wait till they gotta put the elogs in . Its it nice to have someone control how much you can make and the miles you get . I had 2 loads 561 mls and 641 mls app times on both had to wait . Gr8 money ah. . The planners lol angel has 3day app time on both loads both got there early they said you are 24hrs early no more like 36 . Sorry you gotta wait for your app. Time . Now I wait for nother load never a preplan advance like I was told . Maybe some of y'all will wake up and smell the roses you are getting screwed at Irt .

The advantage for them on the per diem is that they don't have to pay workmens comp, fica, unemployment ins on the 8 cpm.
The advantage for you is that you get the per diem credit in your weekly pay instead of getting the credit at the end of the year.
There is less contribution to your social security benefits which may lower your retirement benefits. -
Well I haven't seen it it's to there advantage not mine or any 1 else there getting the bigger credit at the end of the year . Talk to my account all boils down you get screwed . They pay you or me or us a cheap wage using are money from the government . They have to have workmans comp. It the law in Florida now if you 1 or more people employeed in a company they have to have it . Or these company us a out of source paycheck company they have the worked comp. All in all there ripping us off on pay no matter how you look at it and your tax break . Cuz there taking it for there advantage . Just like covenant , knight transportation there couple more out there . They lead us to believe you are getting a deal when you real are not . Like I said I was not told when hired on they had this or I would of never came here . Now it's back to trying find a company worth going to work for . The good ones you gotta wait till 1 either dies or retires. You here some of these drivers here I'm grossing 1200 and 1700 a week ya ok what dope are you on cuz my second week here in ran 4600 miles and at .24 cent a miles don't come close to that . Yes I'm a runner I'll burn the wheels off a truck the grass don't have time to grow . 350 $ and 550$ a week on the road away from home not worth it . Nice truck or not .

nice truck or not ?? you should have seen that filthy dirty nasty looking rolling wreck they tried to put me in at the end of orientation !! I said thanks but no thanks turned around and came back to NY......
IRT is a 1st class bottom feeder, the two days I was down there I talked to other drivers and observed how that operation is run up close and personal.......what a joke no wonder they are always hiring.. -
They do not tell you about per diem, but I also expect every otr company to have it, so its not a big deal to me, just one of them deals, I myself don't see all the fuss over it.
