Bill Cheney removed both my trainers from the training department. I was their last student.

 

You have to want your CDL, it is not given to you just cause. We lost alot from our class. I think we started un the upper 20's and only graduate 6-7 of the original class. My class date was 12/11/2010

 

I don't understand why people blame a company. Its Policy, you break it or can't comply, you're toast. I enjoyed my time at Stevens, and have no problem reccomending the company to other people. Stevens just didn't work for me. There are 1000's of companies out there, 1 of them will fit perfectly for me.

 

hi,i hold a cdl i got while at stevens,i now have type 2 diabetes,and am on metformin for it,it is slowly lowering my blood sugar,will stevens rehire me,or will have to wait untill my blood sugar is down to there limits?

 

Call Stevens and ask.

But, I am taking a stab in the dark here, but I would imagine that you would have to be "down to their limits"...

 

I'm sure happy I didn't go with Steven's I pass there trucks all the time and in constuction zones they have to go 10 under the posted constuction speed.(my friend went to stevens) Also was told that a trainer put this gals stuff out at a truck stop and ditched her. Now thats a true proffesional oh i was also told that in the beggining of orientation they started with 70 and by the next day they were down to 40. They are a true CDL mill. If you go to school in your own state then you keep your License. BUT if you go to Texas and get trained under Texas CDL then you get a Texas CDL(make sense to me) I hope you enjoy your expirence with stevens my friend got lucky and got a good trainer.

 

A trainer strands a student, they are NO longer a trainer... cut and dried policy. Had almost 100 in orientation when I went... by day 3, when you are actually hired, down to 60, failed drug test, and medical... by the end of the week, when we went out with trainers, down to 30... most could not do the basics of backing in a straight line, shifting. NONE of us were from the Stevens School... all from outside schools... You keep your license, as you are required to return to your home state, and transfer the Texas CDL to your State within 30 days...
It is more about the attitude of the student, and wiliness to learn than it is about getting a good trainer.

Actually, I have heard of this situation many times... however what were the actual circumstances there and as far as being a CDL mill most, if not all, CDL schools are mills by the next week there will b very few left standing due to one reason or another. I enjoyed my employment with Stevens they're actually a really good company if you don't have that many bills or a home. Myself I had to leave for personal reasons, too bad I cannot do OTR anymore because of the circumstances I had to leave under. The company like most said that leaving a truck in a secure facility or not is considered abandonment even if they tell you to park the truck in such a location. Now I was a lease operator not a company grunt, if I was company it may not have counted against me I don't know, but yes everyone needs to get facts straight before posting so people can truely understand a company and get a good picture before deciding.
