Diabetes. If insulin is necessary to control a diabetic driver's condition, the driver is not qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce. If mild diabetes is present and it is controlled by use of an oral hypoglycemic drug and/or diet and exercise, it should not be considered disqualifying. However, the driver must remain under adequate medical supervisionCybergal Thanks this. -
If your doctor prescribes insulin to keep your diabetes in check, then yes, you will be disqualified from driving commercially.

I can tell you anything above 250 after two to three hours after eating is to HIGH and a good level is 180 or less in the same time frame. After fasting and waking up your blood sugar should be less then 130. You have to change your diet and exercise and if that doesn't work you need to see a doctor and start taking meds for LIFE or until you loose the weight and other factors causing the problem in the first place. However, weight isn't always a factor it could be genetic and therefore Nothing will fix the problem except meds and control of eating and portion controls in effect. I hope this helps you out. Remember to read labels and portion sizes and act accordingly. Limit intake to no more 75 grams of Carbs per meal and snacks to no more than 30grams of carbs and always try and eat some protein with your meal regardless of desire as this will help stabilize your surgar levels and will avoid peaks and lows. Good Luck. Ken

I don't remember being blood tested for sugar level. I did a urine test. I have been fretting about this for awhile. CassAnn has given good advice. After her last quiet advice a light bulb went off in my foggy brain. They don't blood test they Urine test. Went online. Urine tests are availabl & cheap. $6 gets 100 strips/depending on brand. This may be the better indicator for our test purposes. Anyway I am trying this next. Presently it is higher but a lot lower than before. Not perfect.
Diabetes presently affects 25% of the population of the US I have read.

Diabetes is one of the things they can check in the urine sample. -
seansolo,go see a doc, diabetes is nothing to mess with,it can and WILL KILL you if left untreated my blood sugar was consistently in the 220"s range,my a1c was 9.9,i walk 2 miles a day,and really watch what i eat,my blood sugar is now in the low 120's fasting usually shoots too 150 or so after eating, but drops back in a couple hours,my doc put me on metformin, and lisinopril for high bp my blood pressure was 136/78,that too has dropped, metformin is really cheap,$10 for a 90 day supply at wallyworld and as of this writing,i have only been on metformin for 3 days,it does work fast for some people.

You can buy those urine test strips at walmart without a prescription. They are made by Bayer. Just ask the pharmacist for them. And yes, you can still drive interstate if you get the new FMCSA insulin exemption.
-
You can buy a glucometer at the drug store or walmart as well. Just be prepared to get used to sore fingers.
As far as the driving with insulin, it is a waiver, and the company does not have to comply. Insurance regulates who they take on.
