One year truck driving boot camp or not

    I just got out of school the first of this year and been driving since Febuary. It seems like every since then I've been given the #### stick every since the first week of being at this new terminal. I understand paperwork errors and having to find it out on your own but whats the deal with being sent out for 7-12 deliveries at 2pm and working 12-14hr days daily when everyone else seems to be off when I return to the yard? Just not to sure if im being tested out to see if I can handle it or not, what do you think?

    It may be that the new guy gets the crap at most places,it seems that way to me. I'm not sure what you are doing, I'd guess local delivery, meaning you deliver what the other guys bring in. Been there, done that, but the local deliveries were five hundred mile trips with a pesky back-haul involved on top of that and another delivery the next day. The city drivers got paid hourly to do the short trips loading and unloading, they wouldn't do OTR .

    Where I'm at now, the new guy takes most of the cancellations, meaning short pay many weeks, they also are supposed to leave last and load last, meaning they get to pick from one or more bad trailers and working with the shop to get them roadworthy.


    If you stay there, sometime, someone else will be the new guy, and hopefully things will improve. If it doesn't, it's been said to put in a year before quitting, so you don't appear to be a job hopper. Good luck to you and always do the safe thing.

    Yep, paying your dues and it also could be that being a new driver that you are slower than the more experienced drivers, Im not saying thats so just a possibility. An extra five minutes here and there can sure add up at the end of the day. Do you get paid overtime?

    It just takes time. The more experienced you get, the more you know your stops, all the ins and outs. I felt like you when I started out but now I can swing 14 stops in a 13-15 hour day. Hang in there. You are not the only driver feeling that way. And as someone asked if you get paid overtime and the bosses ain't complaining, it's all good.

    Always a bummer being the low man on the totem pole, but as long as your stick it out others will soon be "that new guy".

    I totally understand paying my dues, but Im not the low man on the todem pole. There are atleast 3 dudes under me if not more, I guess they figure I need the hours or something cause today I almost went over 14hrs 10min shy of it. Long day, it would be great if we got over time after 40 but we got to see 60 in order to see any of that. But then we would only get 40hrs
